Black smoke, real black, is unburnt fuel in the exhaust. If it clears up in a very short time, it may be only due to the extended cranking you have to go through to get it started. If fuel consumption is not awful, it is possible that the hard starting is not a fuel problem. If this is fuel injection, too much gas could be leaking injectors, but as above, if it clears up right away, the smoke was from extended cranking forcing all that gas into the cylinders. You probably should check fuel pressure, always do that for hard starting.
Check your ignition system, use a calibrated spark tester. Need new spark plugs and/or plug wires?
Check your float level in carb. & test the valve with the float, check your fuel filters and check your fuel line from the tank or check for dirt in base of tank, lastly check your HT leads to plugs
gheck gas tune, could be mixture, definately settings or pressure loss, making the system take a few seconds to start the car,get it looked at,not one for the novice, but is very fixable
I found the fuel rail shrader valve core was leaking out gas overnight. In the morning no gas in the system, started it and pumped the pedal, it started. I removed the shrader valve core and put in a new one. Fixed. A shrader valve core is like the one in your tires where you put air in, if it's loose it will leak air, if the seal is gone it won't hold air.
Hello
If were having problems with starting in the morning
you might have gas draining back into the tank causing a hard start.
or if you look at the throttle body there is a tpsthrottlepotioncenser if this is not getting a signal this too will cause a hard to start,
Is there a check engine light?
