1998 dodge ram 1500,abs and brake light on engine light comes on sometimes then goes out on its own.speedometer and odometer will not work below 25mph,no braking problems,i was told it was the 500.00 brake module,ihave my doubts.

Has the master cylinder been replaced?

Can be loose speedo wiring connectors under instrument panel or its issue with speed sensor on transmission.

scan for codes first. sounds like a shorting wire. has vehicle been lifted?

I am having the same problem. I replaced the speed sensor on the rear diff. and the problem went away but when i started it the next day the problem came back. If you figure it out let me know.

Hi, Autozone will scan your vehicle for free 1997 and newer vehicles. Your brake fluid being low will also make the brake light go on. Ihope this helped you out. Good luck, .....MIKE-

ABS LIGHT ON AS WELL?IF SO..I WOULD LOOK AT ABS SENSOR IN REAR DIFFERENTIAL..GETS SPEED SIGNAL FROM THIS SENSOR AS WELL..USES ONE IN TRANS FOR TRANS SHIFTING

The brake and ABS light both come on when you are receiving no speed signal. Most likely the speed sensor in the top of the rearend is bad.

it sounds like it is the speedometer cable that goes from the speedometer gauge to the transmission is wearing out.unless you have done one of these before then i would suggest having someone do it for you.
