I have a 1997 Dodge Intrepid automatic v6. My battery light is lightup on the dash board so I figuered my battery was dying due to loss of power in the vehicle, or the alternator going out. I took off the negative wire to the battery and the car continued to run, as Ive been told that by doing this, if the car dies then the alternator is bad. I checked the battery and it reads 14 volts, so I believe the battery is good? I do have a sound system in the car and have a 1500 watt amp connected, the previous owners also had a stereo system and however they rigged there's was totaly a mess as the wires were all, just a mess. As of today, the car has died, and when we jumped it it did start up, but was not able to keep power, the dash lights would not come on, basically anything that had to do with electric stuff was not working? Any suggestions as to what might be the problem? I did just get a tune up and oil change, new spark plugs and wires, and also it has been over heating.....

SOURCE: chrysler 3.3 vin r v6 mini van, starts then dies

Charlie. You have replaced the ECM on your van?.
Kedwin,, Your problem is, the computer on that 3.3 L.
Need to be programed with the VIN nember of your car.
The Antitheft System will disable the injectors due a incorrect VIN, Bucause the body computer is not recieve the correct pasword between 5 seconds after start up.
YOU have 2 options. 1 get a ALOHA Smith. some of they have the computer required to program ECMs.

The other option is: Get a new ECM from the dealer, They will program if ask for that.

NOTE:::::: Other way is . Put the body control module with the computer from the same car.

OK... I hope this work for yours.
If NOT letme know I can look for more information.
Thank you.

SOURCE: 99 Dodge Durango Dies When Slowing

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

While driving 1997 intrepid, the instrument panel

I just experienced this problem. I called my mechanic and he knew what it was because it happened to his wife's Intrepid.

The solder connections on the back of the dash crack allowing it to work at times due to temperture variations. All he did was remove the cluster and re-solder it and replace it. It now works perfectly. He charged me $100. Cheaper than a new cluster!

I have a 1997 dodge intrepid that i have been told the egr valve is bad...now my car hesitates, stalls or dies on me at random times. could this be the egr or something else?and also sometimes when it dies...

A bad EGR valve can definitely cause these symptoms, but would have nothing to do with the battery terminals. Unfortuneately, several other things can also cause these symptoms.

Pulled up to stop sign and the car just quit and it won't start

First check the power cables under the hood on the passenger side firewall these have a nasty habit of pulling free by getting caught on the tie rods this causes the car to immediately die, the fix is: use a zip tie to hold them up off the tie rods if that isn't it then: check the ignition module with a testlight to see if you have power when the key is on

Battery light on dash comes on.

the lite comes on due to the increased load on the alternator, the alternator has a failed diode in the rectifier, the output is lower than normal due to this diode problem, u can either rebuild the alternator for around $50 or install a rebuilt, that will depend on your skill level.
