My 2004 VW W8 Auto sedan has recently developed a bad miss-fire. Took it to local experts. They thought it was an issue with the ignition timing (a recall problem). However, the 'fix' did not fix it. They then diagnosed a cam adjuster issue which was going to be a NZ$10K job. I checked on line to find this a problem with this model but for which VW would not do a general recall. I suggested (as read on line ) that they do a engine flush. They did and all seems well. What is your opinion please? Subsequently, following very hot weather, the fan motors have switched on full when starting up car and sometimes over run after ignition switched off. Intermittant. Your opinion also ? Cheers, Laurie

As to the mis-fire, it sounds like it was a clogged sensor that the "flush" cleared out. the fans running (I assume that you are speaking of the cooling fans) they are controlled by a sensor on the engine, so the sensor MAY need to be replaced (it can be tested in or out of the car without too much trouble) they are not very expensive so take heart!

Possible ignition coil problem , check engine light on

Yep, ignition coils go bad on these.
They are not too expensive or difficult to fix yourself.
Your local auto parts store probably has a few in stock.
Here's a video on how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Rkpy4120Tg

Headlights go out and come back on while driving

I'm not an expert but I own a 1997 Jetta and ran into the same problem recently. I took the car to my VW mechanic and he thought it was the ignition switch. I took it in, he replaced the ignition switch ($53 part, $80 installation) and presto... the problem is fixed.

Check engine light blinks

Ok, i would ave the ignition coil pack tested for its operational valve asap if possible. this is either an ignition coil pack issue or, a bad ECM. the ECM controls the ignition timing in this vehicle so, the problem will be there if the crank shaft sensor and cam sensors are ok.

I would pull the trouble codes asap as well. this will help diagnosis this issue correctly. this can be done at a local auto zone or a local mechanics shop as well.

Airbag light blinks

This problem was covered by a national recall. I had mine fixed at no cost to me ($1,500.00 paid by VW). If you have paid to have it fixed VW will reimburse you.
