When I unlock and lock my car, it normally beeps. Lately it has gotten snooty about when it wants to beep and when it won't beep my alarm goes off when I try to start the car even though the key worked to unlock the car. I can't drive my car at all now. It's a 99 TDI.

Atleast once or twice a week my 99 VW Beetle alarm goes off, I lock and unlock with the key in the door but it will never turn off.... If I leave it for the day and go back home that evening it usually will let me unset the alarm by then. I am very NOT satisfied with the Beetle! Is there a way to disarm this alarm???? Thanks in advance!

Try unplugging the horn before starting the car

My beetle is fairly stubburn....for example: i tried cranking it with the alam going off and after five times the alarm cut itself off, then i started it and drove off. but that clearly is no valet over-ride because the second and third time didnt work. second time i unlocked the hatchh back and the assenger door and started the engine and it worked. third time....well...still trying.!!

remove the key from the ignition and press the UNLOCK. its saying the alarm was triggered, eg if door was opened without first using the unlock on the remote. maybe when alarm was armed not all doors were fully closed. or you just reconnected the battery so the door was open without you ever pressing the unlock on the remote(which could be called DISARM the alarm)

Take to dealer. Vehicle needs vag-com to be reprogrammed. Bring all keys with you to dealer.

Have a 2000 VW Beetle. The alarm won't turn off!

My 2000 Beetle does same thing (although not all the time). Just found an internet post that suggests there is a problem in the door lock sensor. I assume you are using a regular key - not
the keyless entry - like I am. He also said that you can disable the alarm (also disables the
keyless entry - which doesn't bother me) by leaving the front door AND the rear trunk open and
starting the car up. Seems to work so far. I will get the door lock sensor replaced and turn the
alarm system back on (not sure how yet), and let you know if that stops the problem.

Car died and now alarm will not turn off.

manually lock and unlock the driver door with the key. ( i have the same problem) I think its a fuse problem, because if I keep locking and unlocking the car will finally give in and unlock. try opening and closing the door while doing this too.. it seems to work for me.

If you do not have a Check engine light on and you have an alarm system, try in disabling that first and then try starting it. Do not disable the alarm by pushing the button, you must completely disable it. Some systems will act this way mhen the key did not register
