There are many areas of concern for a fuel leak. The fuel tank is constructed of a rigid plastic and is fairly unlikely to leak. The fuel pump is housed inside the tank and transfer gasoline through a combination of metal and rubber lines to a filter in the engine compartment. From the filter it enters the fuel rail on the engine. Any unused fuel then navigates through metal and rubber hose back to the tank. There is also an opening in the tank for the fuel filler.

The first thing to do is establish a general area of the leak. Is it at the rear of the car? Front? Middle?

Secondly, does it leak at all times or only when running? A leak that worses when the vehicle is running would indicate the pressure or return lines from the fuel pump are at fault.

Begin by determining the general area and depending on your ambition and tool resources, raise the car and inspect closer. Be sure to be safe and use a jack stand. On older hondas the leak is typically a corroded metal fuel line or brittle rubber line.

How can i find a gas leak on my gas tank?

Usually when a gas leak occurs. There will be a strong lingering gas odor or fuel may leak. If you can not locate the leak you may want to hire a repair shop to perform a "Smoke Test". This test is typically used to find leaks in the EVAP system but has other great uses as well. This test can help locate engine vacuum leaks and fuel tank leaks as well. You might also consider lowering the tank down for further diagnostic information. Any other questions feel free to write back. Good Luck.

Gas leak, engine light on

Gas or oil leak? Gas leak can turn the light on. Oil doesn't. Try to notice where the leak is under the car on the ground. Look under the car and see where the leak is on the frame. All this helps. Have the codes read.

Ford freestyle smell like gas inside

Could be a small gas leak in one of the gas lines or even a leak on top of the gas tank and yes could even be a leak where the fuel pump goes in the top of the tank. Quite often the leak is on the tank top out of sight and it smells of gas even if you have a slight leak.

Evap leak in fuel

Remove the gas cap and re-install it making sure that you hear it click several times. What your evap leak could be is the gas cap allowing gas fumes to escape. All it takes is a .040 leak to turn on the engine light. If it persists you'll have to have the emission system smoke tested. What happens is the system is literally filled with smoke and the leak will be found by where the smoke comes from.

Fuel Leak

I wouldn't drive or start it with a fuel leak, it needs to be up on a lift to see it all clear, before any proper diagnosis.
