Periodic stalling at slow or fast speeds. It would always restart immediately once it stopped. Gradually it got more frequent over maybe 10000 miles. Now it is almost immobile. Nissan dealership in Fife , Washington played dumb and tryed to sell me a new car and were totally unhelpful. I have concluded that the problem is both electronic and fuel related and so I suspect the fuel pump emergency cutoff system, if there is one. Before I take it to an auto service center where I can expect a vastly inflated bill I want another opinion, and perhaps a remedy, like bypassing the system. Any ideas?

The fuel pumps on these cars seem to fail gradually. The car will stall / hard start for quite a while. Sometimes problem is worse when fuel tank level is low. I replaced fuel pump and no problems.

the only way to bypass the immobalizer if it is that is to open either the driver door or the boot with the key.
other wise you have to remove the immobalizer and fit an aftermarket one.

SOURCE: service engine soon light is on constantly.

ALTENATOR AND BELT PROBLEMS: I would assume that someone has c hecked the battery. A dead cell will shorten the life of the alternator..If the plug( at the alternator) is the least bit shakey, replace it. Check all grounds, engine to firewall, engine to frame, engine to battery, frame to radiator support, and the alternator plug, again.
CAR STALLS/DIES/LACK OF POWER: Have your mechanic inspect and clean the throttle body and the idle control motor. When these parts get dirty with carbon and debris they will cause erratic idle and dying at stops and low speed complaints.
CRUISE CONTROL AND BRAKE LIGHTS: First, check the obvious. Blown fuses? Check brake lights -- if both are blown, the system won't work. Also look for any disconnected vacuum lines in the engine compartment.

THE ALTENATOR WHICH SUPPLIES THE CAR THE ELECTRICAL POWER; IF WORN WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS IN ANYTHING ELECTRICAL IN YOUR CAR, INCLUDING THE MOTOR

SOURCE: 1998 NIssan Frontier service engine soon light at 93,000 miles

that might be a funny coincidence if your buddy knows whats up then it just might be a sensor that would be my guess, check your fuses just to be safe.

SOURCE: I have a 2005 Nissan pathfinder

I just had the same issue with the same mileage as yours. Mine is the sending/sensing unit and it causes the range, distance to empty, etc. to be incorrect. The dealer is replacing for just under...$500. Another problem has been a whining sound under the hood, which they diagnosed as worn timing chain guides...cost to replace the guides is about $1,400. Not replacing results in the chain running on metal and chain wear, not to mention that whine. The service advisor said these two issues are the most common problems with Pathfinders. Good luck with your problems.

Hello,
When the MAF on most vehicles reach a point of preventing the engine from starting, you can usually just unplug it and the engine will start. If that doesn't work-
You may want to try having the O2 sensor, ( Oxygen sensor ), checked. It works with other components of the emission system and can cause similar symptoms as the MAF, including preventing the engine from starting.

Testimonial: "Other similar issues are the cam position sensor, which is located inside the distributor. It's easier to just replace the distributor."

5 speed intermittently stalls when power is not applied, will restart immediately.

If you a mechanic friend, ask to check the fuel pressure. It will tell you what is wrong.

Stalls frequently

Seems like a fuel supply problem... additional fuel is added through the injectors when the engine is cold (running slightly rich) and then when it comes up to temperature or pre-set time period through the Electronic Control Unit (brain), the engine dies. Each time you shut off the car and restart it, the injectors receive extra fuel. My guess is partially clogged fuel injectors. Take the car to a Bosch Service Center and have them cleaned... its far cheaper than buying new. Change the fuel filter too! Hopefully, the fuel injection system pump is not bad (not the same as the fuel pump) as these are expensive. Get a rebuilt one, if you need a new one. Recommend Denso Iridium spark plugs to get a cleaner burn, better gas mileage, and longer service life.
