On a 2002 buic regal rear view mirror how do you take it off the windshild mine has a short the interor light won't stay on when I open the door sometimes it will work and sometimes it won't, if I move the mirror it will come on but won't stay on . thank you jennifer

Mine does that occasionally intermittently but if you look around in the back of the mirror you'll see some wires, those are most likely broken.
I had the mirror completely fall off the windshield and had a windshield installation company reattach it because I knew it took a specialty glass glue, well they broke one of the wires but not completely so it shorts out but a wiggle makes the lights come back on and I'm just to busy to take the mirror off the mount and fix it right. You can remove the mirror from the piece that attaches it to the windshield.
Check those wires, good luck

• In the door handle "finger well" remove the plastic cover with a screw driver.
• Remove 2 screws (they may be torx or regular hex bolts).
• Remove Philips screw from behind the inside door opener lever.
• slightly and slowly, pull back on the plastic triangle that is on the back side of the outside rear view mirror. It will stay attached to the door panel, but you need to release the catch nipple from the door.
• Now, pull out on the edges all around the bottom, front, and back of the door panel ( you may need a putty knife or something similar to get your fingers in and start pulling).
• once the door is loose, lift up slowly on the door panel until it is free of the door (don't pull too hard or far as there are still 3 wire bundles attached).
• Unclip the door light plug on the back and the locks and windows switch plugs towards the front.
• Reverse for install.

What kind of vehicle is it?

Well, the mirrors would be on the circuit with the courtesy lights. The door locks and windows would be on different circuits.
Why can't you unlock the driver's or passenger door with the key and open it with the door handle ?

Have you check for blowin fuses (Linda)?

This is a problem caused by a sticking door ajar/courtesy light switch. The switch signal goes to the BCM (body control module) and that turns on the interior lights. Since each door has this switch you need to have the dealer use a special tool to scan the module inputs from the door switches and see which door switch is causing the lights to stay on.

JUST PUSH THE BUTTON ON THE BOTTOM OF MIRROR ON THE SIDE THAT ON, MAKES SURE ALSO THE THE DOOR SENSOR IS FUNCTIONAL ON THE SAME SIDE SINCE IT ALSO ACTS AS ENTRY LIGHT.
DOOR NEEDS TO BE CLOSED FOR THE LIGHT TO TURN OFF, IT MAY TAKE A MINUE TO DO SO.

It helps if you describe the problem. Does not blink? blinks fast? indicator stays on? right or left? both? do the emergency blinkers work ok? Parking lights work? brake lights?

also check to make sure your dimmer switch isn't turned all the way up. if the dimmer is all the way up your interior lights will stay on. check your dimmer switch

I'm not sure where the fuse is, but I'm pretty certain your door sensor is the source of the problem. In between the hinges on all your doors is a button that gets pressed and depressed when the doors open and close, this controls your courtesy lights, make sure none of them are broken, seized up etc.
