My car keeps dying and won't restart until I charge the battery again. Then, when I drive during the day there are no problems. When I drive at night using the headlights it will die within a short period of time. I have changed the alternator and had the battery checked and still no solution! Is this a common problem for this car? How do I fix? Will it be inexpensive?

First with the car not running check the batt voltage should be 12.5 or higher. You need a voltmeter (very cheap at Harbor Freight Tools store) second start car and check voltage at the batt connection on the alternator. it should be 14.5 or higher. Now check the voltage at the battery with the car running, the battery should be receiving the 14.5 or better that the alternator is putting out. If battery is not receiving the Alternator output . you have a short in the wiring from the alternator to the battery which usually goes through the starter, The Postive battery cable connects directly to the srtarter and so does the charging wire from the Alternator. See the answer i gave to the 1969 buick.

Travis,

Thsi way you will keep paying me $10 everytime your battery goes dead. Please have your car alternator checked and repaired as it is not charging the battery because of which the battery runs low and the cars stops. Gas cars need a battery to run on, unlike diesel ones that need battery only to start. They can also be push started if the battery is dead. petrol card cant run without the battery. So, the answer lies in driving to the electrician and getting the alternator repaired.

Motor starts then dies several times when cold

Sounds like the cold start solenoid. It is designed to keep the engine running at a set RPM until it reaches a specific engine temp.

Car battery dying

The light is telling you the battery is low on charge. What you need to do is check the alternator and see if it is putting out the correct amperage. If you go to Auto zone they can check this for you and I believe it is free. Another test you could do is start the car and pull the positive cable from the battery and if the car dies then you have a charging problem and most likely is the alternator. A couple things about the battery itself. Make sure the connections are clean and tight. If the alternator is good then maybe the battery is not taking the charge from the alternator.

My Nissan Altima 97's Emergency brake light and battery light coming on while driving this afternoon. But I didn't feel any other abnormal things. I cleaned the battery cable connection with W-40 and...

Battery light means the alternator is not charging so if you keep driving it eventually the battery will die. The brake light may be on if the emergency brake lever is pulled even a little bit.

Altanator keeps dieing.

A fresh charged battery does not mean it is a good battery. The battery is working the alternator to death, replace it,it has a bad cell,or the amps are to low,and has a short in it.The alternator senses the battery is in bad need off charge, and puts all out until the alternator has nothing left,This is the most likely cause of this problem. Also be sure the battery cable ends are shiny clean when replacing the battery.

1979 Ford Thunderbird alternator not charging

Are the connections really dirty at the voltage regulator? These tend to get corrosion on them and cause weird charging system issues. Also make sure the ground is good on the regulator.
