I recently acquired a 1995 olds aurora that was losing battery charge overnight or less...
what I discovered was that the battery was discharging to the body due to floor board being rusted through....
not to mention that someone also put a towel beneath the battery....ooops moisture being retained....
I pulled out the towel and wire brushed the battery pan area....
then I put sheet metal and silicone to seal the area....
did the trick....
but I still relocated the battery into the trunk...
check with a multimeter set to DC voltage....
put test probe to battery terminal and floorboard near the battery....
if you get a voltage reading when doing this....
you need to isolate the battery to a dry vicinity.....
good luck....
You may or may not need to replace the battery. To check if it is a drain from one of the systems on your car; unhook the battery overnight and see if it kept the charge till morning. If it is still charged in the morning then it is not the battery.
SOURCE: We have replaced the alternator
First check the alternator connector, Clipped in all the way? And tight? Is there a broken wire in connector?
Next, using a voltmeter, check voltage at battery with engine off. Then start engine and check voltage at battery again. This reading should be 1 to 1.5 volts higher than the first. If not, the alternator is not charging the battery.
Check both ends of the battery cables for tightness, corrosion, damage.
