Hello tmaxx31190
Start by checking fuse #7 a 15amp fuse in the fuse block under the left side of the dash. This fuse is for the accuator motor on top of the left front axel tube. The accuator moter engages and
disengages the front axel for 4wd and 2wd. If the fuse is good, have someone operate the switch
and check to see if the accuator is working, you should be able to hear it engage or disengage.
If it's not working check the connections and for power at the accuator before possibly changing it.
If the accuator is working, it could be a problem with the shift fork inside the differential. Also, have
someone start the truck and engage the 4x4 then look to be sure the output shaft from transfer case to the front axel is turning. The safest way to do this is to have all 4 wheels up on jack stands.
Hope this is helpful.

Wil putting two size tires on a isuzuvehicross make the transferre case go out.

Yes...
The tire sizes are important on any 4X4 vehicle... IF you engage the 4X4 ... or is you have an AWD vehicle...

If the tires are different sizes , front and rear... then the front and rear axles will turn at different speeds... not in sync with the gearing of the transfer case.

Unless this vehicle is being driven on snow , ice or mud.... while in 4x4 mode... this is very bad.... for axles and transfer case...

4wd wont work

It will more then likely be a bad transfer case shift motor if the locking hubs are in good shape and the switch is good.

Ned to change the oil in transfer case

The Z71 typically comes with the auto 4wd transfer case (cannot remember the GM number). This requires AutoTrak II, which is available at a GM dealer. Do not use any other fluid in this transfer case! The previous post was correct in the location of the two plugs, but not on the fluid (the other types of transfer cases by GM use ATF). The transfer case is located under the truck right under the cab. There is a small skid plate under it, and a large driveshaft leaves the rear end of the case heading to the rear differential (axle). If you have the manual or electronic w/o auto 4WD transfer case, you can use Dexron III, but Dexron VI is a better fluid that is also now available at your local auto parts store. Again, if you have the AUTO 4WD button in the dash, use the AutoTrak II fluid from the dealer.

Tacoma 4x4 not engaging

Do you have all 4 tires matched to each other? If you have 1 worn and 3 new, expect problems. Also, 2 tires on the front from 1 mfgr and 2 on the rear from a different mfgr will cause no 4WD. If all 4 tires match, put it in 4WD and tap on the transfer case and the front shift mechanism on the front axle. One or the other may be stuck, assuming that the 4WD fuse is good. The fuse is in the fusebox under the dash.
