I drive a 1994 mercury villager, whenever I select the gear to drive, its so slow to pick while the reverse drive is very smart, please what could be the problem?

Have a 1995 Mercury Villager; When I drive it it forward gears it has almost no power; when i drive it in reverse it moves great as though nothing is wrong. Is this a recognizable problem?

That would be because you need a new tourque converter. This is a knowen issue within your vehilce year and make. I am sorry to bring such bad news.

Problems accelerating

the engine tickover is too slow when the engine is cold its running on cold start, ie:choke,, after it warms up the engine slows down this is what is causing it to stall in gear,, get some one to hold the brakes hard on and with the engine running in gear ajust the tick over till its reving at 750 - 850 rpm the revs will go up a bit when its out of gear,, before you pick a gear to go into push the foot brake down to stop the car lurching,,,

1994 mercury villager has skip and engine service

Try disconnecting the battery for 2 hours. Then drive for 10 miles so the PCM can relearn. It may run rough for 10 miles.
