You need to repair your transmission before it totally damaged. You're correct that the noise is coming out from you transmission frictions. Just get it repaired at dealer.

Why would all forward gears work when i release the cluth and reverse not in a 1988fordf150 i have just installed a used 5 speed manual transmission

Hi Steve:
I'd try checking the linkages to make sure that reverse selection is fully rotating the mechanism. It is fairly easy to check if you disconnect the linkage, move the lever to the correct position, and then try to re-connect the linkage.
If you safely place the vehicle on a hoist or jack stands, you can determine when the transmission gears are engaged by trying to rotate the driveshaft.
It would also be an idea to check with the place where you purchased the trans to see if there was any history of trouble with it.
Hope this helps.

Why does my reverse gear grid on my 2000 Toyota

I take it you mean the transmission grinds when shifting into reverse with a manual transmission in which case the input shaft of the transmission is still partially engaged with the engine. One cause may be low fluid in the hydraulic clutch reservoir if it has a hydraulic clutch mechanism; use DOT-3 brake fluid and pump the clutch pedal a few times to remove any air. Another cause may be that the pilot bearing is hanging up; this is a major repair. Another possibility is that the clutch lining is coming loose or totally disintegrated requiring replacement.

Problem engaging first gear

Sounds like something with pedal to throw- out bearing. Go to a transmission shop they'll check it for free in most cases!

2001 f350 v10 automatic transmission will not engage gears

Hi Brent,

No gears at all is not a good sign. About the only things that can cause all the gears to go out at the same time is either the transmission has a severe fluid leak and there is no fluid left to engage the clutches or you have something broken like an input shaft.

If your truck is a 4X4 make sure there is not something silly like the transfer case being in neutral.

Otherwise, check your fluid level. If it is really low, then you need to find out why. If it is not low, look at the color of the fluid and smell the fluid. Good fluid should be pink or red. Bad fluid will be dark brown and will have a burnt smell to it.

If the fluid looks and smells bad, then it is probably time for a transmission overhaul.

Has trouble going into 3rd and 4th gear at times when being shifted. Cluth feels mushie can clutch cause problem.

If the clutch is not completely disengaging the input is spinning too fast and makes gear engagement difficult...eventually it will damage the synchros in the transmission. If the clutch is soft likely it is bypassing inside the master cylinder or the slave is leaking. Bleeding may help short term but problem will quickly re-appear. Yours may have a combination slave and throwout bearing in which case trans needs to be removed to service it. If it's not on the outside of the bellhousing then it is inside.(combo)

Cluth cable ajustment if equiped. Some cars have a cluth cylender if your model has the cylender no ajustment is available. If you had your cluth changed at a garage you might consider takeing it back in for ajustments. If you changed the clutch check cluth cable for ajustment if your car is equiped with cable if not i would perhaps remove the transmission and inspect clutch for loose clutch plate or release bearing might not be seated properly hope this helped you.

Hyundai tucson 2 liter crdi gear box sound its a manual transmission

Hi there, the Common Rail Diesel Inyection (CRDI) 2000 cc 112 Hp M/T have a big trouble on cluth plate, and sounds very loud between 1500 and 2000 rpm on 2,3,4 shift. That motor has too much torque and cause excesive wear in the cluth roll and plate so starts roominess in the cluth system. You could change those parts but quickly the sounds come again. Hyundai is the resposable of that damage. I hope in the near future recall the CRDI model 112 Hp and replace the cluth.

Clutch/transmission issue ISSUE

I had a problem with my 06 Tib engaging gears properly and noticed that my clutch pedal felt weird, the dealer replaced a clutch master cylinder under warranty and now gears engage flawlessly and my clutch works like new again at 50K miles. If you have no warranty left, this would run you about 150.00.
