They aren't. some of the older fords had a 1 on them and then you just followed the firing order. But her is what you do. Remove the distributor cap then Remove # 1 spark plug and bring that piston to top (TDC compression) via tapping ignition. when at top (TDC) notice the aim of the rotor on the distributor, this is the cap # 1 position plug. The # 1 plug wire goes to this position and then follow the firing order for the rest of the plug wires in clockwise rotation. Though you forgot to mention YR,MAKE, ENGINE SIZE

The firing order is 1 2 3 4 with 1 being the passenger side. Aveos don't have distributors, so the other end of the wire shouldn't give you much trouble.

94 royal begis to cut out, chugs at about 55

Replace the spark plugs and wires along with a distributor cap and rotor. Be careful to leave the old wires and plug wires connected to dist.cap, just remove dist. cap from the distributor and lay aside with plug wires on it then install rotor then new cap and proceed to replace each wire for cap and spark plug one at a time so you don't mix up the spark plug wire firing order. Cap laying to the side is used for reference purpose.

Which plug goes where in dist. cap

I think your firing order is 1-3-4-2.
Your plug-wires must connect in that order!
The longest plug-wire goes to #1 point
already marked on cap. The other longer wire
is for #3 point-marked on cap......
The #1 cylinder (longest plug-wire) is nearest the timing belt-sprocket.
