My friend has a 92 Honda prelude h23 all stock except for an exaust and intake..They just replace the distributor, wires and plugs..fuel pump is fine and fuel filter is new, its getting gas to the engine fine..They said that they ran it thru a computer and it didnt throw any codes...it turns over and sounds like its going to start strong but it dosnt start...what things could cause this to happen??? Appreciate the help guys
the engine has a firing order meaning no one cylinder fires and then it has to go in proper rotation inthe case of a four cylinder engine 1 then no 3 then no 4 then no 2 so firing order 1342 so make sure plug leads fire in that orderthe engine has a firing order

You will need to check for spark disconnect a sparkplug wire at the distributor and leave a 1/4 air gap, crank the engine, do you see a spark,if you have spark then solve for no fuel this can stem from a needed fuel pump that has failed.
Check Fuel pressure with gauge to see pressure is not out more that 5 psi variance of spec. If initial pressure is good, Start with Vulture pump and then on to the ground on the sending unit in the tank attached to the fuel pump assembly. Easy access through the trunk. Ground wire insulation should not be brittle an cracked.Replace wire with 14 stranded THHN or wire from spare harnessing. Wire should be pliable and have good mechanical connection on the spade connector. Ensure clean connection as corrosion of dissimilar metals will invite corrosion over time.
Change ignition module in distributor. If it is actually starting and stopping right away, and the fuel filter is good, it will be the MAF. Mass air flow sensor. But if it was that it probably wouldn't start even after an hour. Sounds more like the module. You can change the whole distributor if that's easier for you. If it was me, i'd get one from a wrecker.
ok lets break this down Vtec= Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control
if you look on the the motor on the left side youll see 2 things the distributor and the vtec solenoid.. the vtec solenoidif the smaller of the 2 thats it m8 theres 2 wires running from it .. all vtec does is lift the cams on a high 3rd lobe :) rides in the middle of the 2 smaller cam's on a automatic it should pop around 5.200 rpms on a honda ecu thats not tuned.. also a exaust helps or a intake that produce a higher tone thats unmistakeable when vtec hits.. its a beautiful thing hit me up with any! honda stuff ive done swaps to my 92 prelude si 2.2l vtec and many more so i know a honda engine and wireing like theback of my hand
I suspect that your spark plug wires or your distributor is going out. Check your spark wires and distributor. To do that take out #1 spark plug wire from the spark plug. Next take out your spark plug then put it in the spark plug wire. Then turn on car and take a look at the spark plug to see if it's getting a spark. Do this with all the spark plug. If it is your spark plug wire I would replace all of them.
Try to start with a less expensive procedure. In addition to relay I would check the spark plugs, wiring set and distributor cap. Also coolant temperature sensor can be a problem. Try to warm up the endine block of car with dry heat (hair fan or heat gun, but gently). Sometimes it helps. If it works problem is spurk plugs, distributor cap or coolant sensor. Also would be usefull to chek the fuel filter.
But first for cold weather sometimes it worthy to use the injector cleaner/or octane buster and better fuel which evaporates better and less viscouse motor oil. And of course check the battery.
Good Luck
