SOURCE: Jerking while driving
If you park your vehicle for a long time, you run the risk of having contaminated fuel in the tank. This happened to a car my wife purchased, and it was the last thing I found. It proved to be the problem. What you need to do is remove the fuel from the tank and then have the tank flushed. Fill it with fresh fuel and replace the fuel filter.

good old ford lol, try looking at the crank sensor its located at the front of the engine tucked in right hand side of exhaust manifold and gearbox, two pin plug, i have also known these to have no end of faults with the fusebox.
easy to remove, and solder the connections inside they all suffer eventually, if your not to handy with cars i recommend taking to a auto electrician, easy if you know how. Good luck Davelee

Tell them you heard about a recall for the CAM PHASERS. When the noise is present and you rev the engine to 2000RPM the noise will fade away. This verifys the CAM PHASERS are acting up.
Usually the sound progresses to the DIESEL level. Further use can damage the engine. There is a service bulletin for this problem. Yours must be an early 2009, last I heard the problem was for 2004-2008 models with dual cams.

consider looking at the fuel pump relay. we had a similar problem where the symptoms were engine dropping to idle and you couldn't accelerate. it would return to normal when turning the engine off and back on again. we replaced the fuel pump and it seemed to work. however, the problem was only present on warm days and low fuel (1/4 tank). it turns out there was a thin crack on the contact causing intermittent failure. not cheap, but it fixed the problem.
