Your hood is supposed to "pop" open from the latch when you pull on the hood release in the car. You have one of two problems...
1. Everything is working fine except the rubber bumpers under your hood are set too low and not providing the "spring force" necessary for the hood to pop free from the latch. When this happens, you pull the release- it opens the latch momentarily, but since the hood doesn't pop free, you can't go to the front of the car and open it. To check this, have someone else pull and hold the hood release lever in the car while you simultaneously go around front and pull upward on the hood. If this works, adjust your rubber bumpers up a bit to provide better spring force.
2. The cable may be broken. This is less likely, and if the hood release feels right when you pull it, I don't think this is your issue.

Good luck.

Might just be stuck. Have someone pull the release as you FIRMLY pound on the front of the hood in the middle with your fist (NOT A HAMMER ! ! ! !).

If that works and it opens, get some WD40 and spray the latch and cable, lever, etc... and then work the release lever before closing it again. If the cable has broken....... it is very difficult to release without some automotive knowledge. I'm betting it is just stuck...

Good Luck.

Can't open the hood by pulling hood release

Cable is stretched/sprung. Access hood release panel and pull cable with channel locks.. or worse, something is stuck in the latch mechanism under hood.
See repair rep at Ford in any case.

Hood does not open on my 2005 Ford Focus

Have someone lean on the hood as you pull the release, it might be jamming up somewhat. If that doesn't work the hood release cable could be broken, or the latch might be jammed from lack of lubrication, etc.

2001Ford Focus hood release cable

Remove the handle inside the cap. Your goal is to get 2-3 inches of cable so you can use a vise-grip to pull open your hood.
