You're not committing any ***** by replacing a cluster with one that shows less miles.
However, you WOULD be committing a ***** if you sold the car knowing that it had covered more miles than was indicated.
If you sell the car, tell the new owner about the mileage.
Other than that, you're doing nothing wrong

If everything keeps going like that then it sounds like its a problem with the onboard computer. The computer controls all the guages and would explain why they all fail at the same time.

SOURCE: fuel gauge not working on 2005 ford mustang
Sending unit is in gas tank. usually as an assembly with the electric pump. These aren't cheap either, If you know a mechanic you can trust ask him how much to install a new one, I can get them wholesale for less than two hundred dollars, but of course retail probably more like 250.00 Hope this helps you!

Normally I'd say the float/sending unit in the gas tank is the culprit, however the fact that your service engine light is involved requires further investigation, You need to hook up an obd2 reader to the interface mounted under your dashboard and see what it has to say, there might be a simple error code preventing your gauge from functioning. Many auto parts stores will do this for you for free...
