Truck will not shift out of 4 wheel low. - 2000 GMC Yukon XL

wow, gee ... try shifting /disengaging in reverse?

There are a number of different hub systems so this may not work but it has worked for me on both auto and manual locking hubs. On a flat surface without traffic. Put the trans into neutral, shift the transfer case into 4x4, shift the trans into reverse and back the truck up 15-20 feet. Completely stop and shift trans into drive. See if this has locked the hubs in. If not, you can also try following the same instructions except shifting into 4wd low. Sometimes the hubs need a "bump" to get them to slip into place. Keep In mind that if the 4 wd low select works, you need to shift it back into 4 wd high before continuing! When taking the truck out of 4wd to 2wd, I recommend the same, shift to neutral, select 2wd, back truck up, shift back to drive and check. Its entirely possible that your hubs need maintenance (they're often overlooked) but hopefully this will get you going. Please let me know if thus worked or if I can offer other suggestions. Sometimes the solenoids will stick on the axle neither in 2 or 4 wheel drive, if this problem started when you weren't shifting between two and four wheel drive it is probably the push button switch cluster on your dash going bad

have truck running,,put shifter in neutral,,shift into high lock 4x4,then put truck into gear,,u can shift from high lock to high gear,,from two wheel to four wheel,,in high only,,if u want to shift transfer case in low,,u have to put truck in ,,neutral,,first,,

On an 86 you probably still had the hub locks on the outside. You have to get down off the truck and manually turn the hubs to the lock position. The hubs are located in the middle of the wheel. Then Put the 4 wheel drive gear shift to 4 hi or 4 low. At the low level it runs very slowly and very low geared. At 4 hi, it runs normal but the 4 wheel drive engages. When you are not using the 4 wheel drive it is good that you get off the truck and turn the hubs counter clockwise to the off position.

truck needs to be in neutral before it can shift back to 4 hi and then shift to 2 hi

I also have a 2002 Envoy. Shifting to and from 4wh and 4wa can be done on the fly but shifting to 4wL has to be done stoped and while in neutral. Try that. Otherwise I'm afraid its a new computer for you. Its located under the left rear seat and you need a loan for one.

start truck leave in park press 2 wheel high button put truck in drive move truck,check for being in 2 wheel high, if still in 4 wheel low have switch and shift solenoid checked

Usually when a truck gets stuck in 4 low you need to put it in reverse, start backing up very slowly, put it in neutral (or push in the clutch on manual trans models) and stop the truck with the brakes. this will release the load on the gearing which should allow you to shift out of 4 low.

try putting your truck in neutral and then shifting into 2 wheel drive shift on the fly does not apply to 4 low only 4 high and on electric shift models it wont shift unless your ****** is in neutral.
