There should be multiple selections for defrost, some have the ability to split the air to the top and the bottom, make sure you are using the right selection. If you are already using the bottom air only selection, one of the wires connected to the rod from the back of the controller knob may have come off. Any a/c shop should be able to help you with this. You might also try the free online service manuals at:

There are what they call mode door's these days they have a electrical motor that turnes the door to different posistions...sounds like yours is become broken. It would depend on your expertise in the ac & heating system area to replace the part. Sometimes easy and most of the times the dash has to be removed.

Check under dash in duct system for any vacuum hoses blown off then check under the hood on the passenger side of engine compartent. If all hoses are connected then you will have to check the heater blend door actuator and the heater blend door lever for proper operation.

2004 GMC Envoy has a banging knocking noise in the dash by defrost every time I start it. blower will not switch from defrost to floor or vents

Sounds like the diverter door is bound up causing the motor to bog down under load. You'll need a manual for that job. It's a pain in the rear to get to.

Air does not blow through vent on 1994 chevy silverado

Which vents, floor--defrost--dash? Can you hear the blower motor running? The squirrel cage could have broken loose from blower motor? There could be an actuator problem under the dash? If actuators are vacuum controlled and vacuum is lost, it might default to defrost, only blow out defrost vents.

Defrorstores stay on ,try to change to floor, ac, heat vent ,deforstores still on 1995 thunderbird lx blower motor works great.

Some cars use vacuum from the engine to open and close the doors that direct the air to different positions. It is possible that the vacuum line to the controls is cracked or disconnected.

Heat and air wont blow through vents

The selection door, is operated by 1/4" vacuum hoses. When turning the knob or sliding a lever, to select between floor, vents, or dash deck for windshield defrost, vacuum is created by the valve body and the blower will then blow thru the desired vents. When these hoses/lines are compromised, especially on a vehicle over 15 years old it seems likely, vacuum won't be created, and the last working position, is normally where it stays! Until the lines are replaced.
Good luck.

The blower motor stays on high all the time. A/C works but will not come out dash vents, comes out defrost and changes to floor when I accelerate. Thanks for your help. Cecil

Your problem with the blower motor only running on high is caused by a defective blower motor resistor pack. Replace the resistor pack. The problem with the vents is not related to the blower motor, and is caused by a problem with the vent controls. I suspect you have a vacuum leak under the dash.

Defrost and floor wont blow air but vents work

these repairs are usually best left to an electromechanic but it can be doen by anyone with basic knowledge following the troubleshooting section in repair manual which can be purchase from local parts shop or online haynes or chiltons will do and get a multitester.

First check basics: are the fuses good to defrost blower? (fuse access refer to manual)
then see if there is power to the blower/defrost switch use multi meter at 20V setting
then see if there is power to blower unit under dash (see manual under interior section to access blower motor)
probe using same setting to test for power on each wire ( as you turn blower setting from low to high you shuld notice the voltagre climbs aswell)
if this checks out your blower motor is faulty replace and your good heres a few places to get the best deal on parts
