if a 4 cyl it will be the rear most cylinder and if a v6 it will be the middle cyl on the right bank looking at the front of the motor.

Most modern vehicles have the Belt Routing Diagrams on the undeside of the Hood. But the sometimes disappear.

I do not know if you have the 1.6L In-Line 4-Cylinder, or the 2.0L DOHC In-Line 4-Cylinder. Nor what Engine Options you have (AC/No AC, etc.).

I don't believe Ford offered a 6 cylinder for the Escort in 2000. The engine is more than likely a 2.0L 4 cylinder. There were three engines for that year. Follow this link to see the diagrams you ask for. Choose the engine you have and click on the camera icon to see the correct diagram.

I assume you are asking about the serptine belt. thisa diagram is generally under the hood and on the engine. If not, one can be found by contacting a major parts store such as Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, or ORiley's, for example.
They can show you the diagram on their computer.

on a 2000, it should be a serptine belt. One belt for everything. First, look at how belt runs, remember. There also should be a diagram under the hood for refernce. Find the belt tensioner, put wrench on and remove tension while your doing that remove a belt from one pulley. Then slip old belt off all others. Instaliton is reverse of what I just stated. Be sure that the belt is sitting correctly on every pully. There are several small groves on belt that if they are't lined up, will cause a shorter life span of the belt.
