Is the security light lit on the dash ? Turn the key to the run position , not start ! Leave the key on till the security light goes out ,about 10 minutes , then turn the key off an wait a couple minutes . Then start the vehicle . If it doesn't work you'll need to take it to a repair shop ,have codes read an go from there ! Or you can bypass the system , that involves find the right wires an soldering in a resistor of the proper resistance . You can google how to do a bypass on GM anti-theft system .
This is a problem in your antitheft system. The security light is only for this system. You will need a new key, ignition, or TDM. (THEFT DETERRENT MODULE) The hard part is determining which of these is the problem. You can also bypass this system and use the existing parts. You only bypass the security feature. This link explains
The anti theft system can fail for a number of reasons. Sometimes it can be as simple as the chip on the key starting to get worn out, or as large as the TDM (Theft Deterrent Module) computer failing. This can be as simple as a 100 dollar key or a 700 dollar TDM. Or any part in between. The hard part is diagnosing which part is failing. These early year's security systems dont run on the car's scanner, so getting scanned wont help. I have had great luck with just bypassing the system. This link has 2 ways to bypass this system. Ive used these bypasses DOZENS of times and both ways work depending the vehicle and which part is failing. Comment back if you need any more help. I know these old VATS SECURITY systems very well. You can contact the guy on this link too. He knows his stuff.
Leave the key in the ignition and in the run position for 20 minutes, this should relearn the antitheft system. If that doesn't work there are bigger problems.
Usually this is a problem with the passlock sensor which is part of teh ignition key cylinder. The ignition cylinder will have to be replaced the initialized before the car will start
On a 2003 Chevy Maibu the theft system light comes on and blinks when the system is triggered. The car will not start and the fuel pump cuts out. You must turn key to on and have all doors closed. Keep the key to on for 10 mins til theft light turns solid and then disappears. Then turn key to start and it should fire up.
check to see if the security light or anti theft light flashes. if that is the case, sounds like the bypass for the remote starter may be causeing the no start by tripping the anti theft system. Remove remote starter and bypass system and join any cut wires back together that may be cut for remote starter. Try starting, if theft light still flashes leave key in the on position after attempted start for 15 minutes till theft light goes solid, turn off and try again. Repeat process for three times to re-learn factory theft system in vehicle. If problem still persists, then take to your local dealer to reprogram factory theft module in the cluster.
it does sound like the anti-theft system. There are only 2 ways to bypass your problem. 1) disconnect the anti-theft system which runs into your ignition, cut the wires to the system and join them back together without hooking it back up to the anti-theft. 2) Bring it back to the dealer so that they can replace your anti-theft sensor. The part is rather cheap but the labor is the killer.
