Serpentine belt this is my first time i am replacing my alternator. i was able to put the new one, but i have problem on putting the belt back in place. it is only one belt for the ac, power stering, and the alternator. i beleive there is a tension pulleys to adjust the belt , but i don't know where is it.

Take off serpentine belt
Unplug all wires from your alt. noting where they go (I usually draw a little diagram and label which goes where)
Unbolt from acc. bracket
Bring old one to parts store for core charge (if applicable)
Bolt new alt. on bracket
Plug wires back in
Put serpentine belt back on

there is a little stick man illustration sticker under the hood showing how to release belt tension by moving the tensioner arm. if the serpentine belt is still on the lower pulley then put the belt on everything except the tensioner, then move the tensioner arm as needed, put the belt in there and release the tensioner arm. most likely going to need two people to do this.

if the belt has come off the lower pulley then you are going to have to remove the service panel behind the right front wheel and put the belt back on lower pulley, then do as above described. this would be a great time to put a new tensioner, a new serpentine belt, and a new "dog bone" motor mount on as it will all be right there to work on with that service panel out.

IF IT IS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE OTHER BELTS, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS UNBOLT THE TOP OF THE ALTERNATOR, AND PUSH IT IN TO LOOSEN THE BELT FOR REMOVAL! IF IT IS IN BACK OF THE BELTS (ESPECIALLY A SERPENTINE BELT) YOU'LL HAVE TO REMOVE THE SERPENTINE BELT FIRST! THERE WILL BE A TENSION PULLEY HOLDING THE BELT TIGHT! YOU'LL NEED TO USE A WRENCH TO PULL THE TENSION PULLEY TOWARD YOU TO LOOSEN BELT! WATCH HOW YOU REMOVE IT, BCUS YOU'LL NEED TO PUT IT BACK ON THE SAME WAY! THEN REMOVE, AND REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR BELT AS BEFORE, THEN REPLACE THE SERPENTINE BELT!

Hello, Alternators are a car part that can be very costly to fix because of labor costs. But with an hour or two of time and a little elbow grease, you can do it yourself. And to replace the alternator follow the following steps below:

Step 1. Pull your car into the garage or your work area. Turn the car off and let it sit for a while to cool.

Step 2. Begin by disconnecting the negative cable of the battery.

Step 3. Remove the serpentine belt from the pulley on the alternator. Do this by using a socket wrench to turn the serpentine automatic belt tensioner so that it allows slack in the belt. Then simply slip the belt off the alternator pulley.

Step 4. Locate and disconnect all the mounting bolts on the alternator, use a vehicle specific manual if you have any trouble.

Step 5. Disconnect all wires attached to the alternator then remove the alternator from the car.

INSTALLING NEW ALTERNATOR.

Step 1. Slide the new alternator into place. Do not worry about the serpentine belt yet.

Step 2. Replace the bolts that held the previous alternator to secure the new one in place.

Step 3. Attach the wires to the new alternator the same way they were attached to the old one.

Step 4. Adjust the serpentine belt tensioner the same direction you did in Section One to put slack in the belt. Wrap the belt around the pulley of the new alternator and then remove the socket wrench from the automatic belt tensioner.

Step 5. Inspect the belt to be sure it is not snug and follows the path required in the pulley and belt configuration diagram.

Step 6. Hook the negative battery wire back to the negative terminal on the battery.

Try putting the belt on the alternator then slide it under the idler pulley last.

Pry the tensioner with appropiate tool, then pull the belt off the alternator pulley before releasing the tensioner. Note the routing of belt before doing this job. Make sure the new belt is same length before putting back on, reverse the procedure.

It sounds like it to me too. If your car has separate belts on the front and not a serpentine belt, try tightening the belt for the alternator before you buy a new one. Belts stretch over time and need to be adjusted, if there is no adjustment left it is time for a new belt. Also make sure the wires on the back of the alternator are tight and not corroded ( greenish colored). Clean them up with some emery cloth and re attach. Do them one at a time so you don't get mixed up. Hope this helps.

Answer Use a large wrench to take tension off of your serpentine belt and remove the belt from the alternator, (just the alternator). Disconnect the wires. Remove the bolts then the alternator. Put new alternator in place using old bolts. Replace wires (may only be one wire, depending on the alternator). Get your large wrench back out, put the belt back on the alternator, and your good to go. this should do it.
