No engine used in the Expedition has a timing belt, they all have timing chains, timing chains never have to be replaced unless they fail or the engine is being rebuilt. On this engine replacing the timing chains for each of the two camshafts (2) cost about $500.00

chains are metal links and usually last the life of the car.
belts are fiber reinforced rubber cogged belts and need replacement about every 60 thousand miles or so. Because a broken belt can result in catastrophic damage to the engine. Belts are cheaper, usually quieter and require less moving mass for the engine.
My personal preferences are chains.
Hi some of them have a belt but yours being the M43 engine is a chain, the only thing to listen for with them is chain slap or an rattling around the chain area, a bit of research on the M43 engine also shows that the chain should be changed after 100000 miles as they become weak, Just joined here and found this unsolved i know its a bit late but hope the extra info helps
