Jeep died while driving. Wont start. Garage said they couldnt communicate with the computer. I replaced the computer and coil. I am getting no spark. I tried the turn on / off/ on /off / on to get the codes but it doesnt work. Any ideas what to check next? Replaced crank sensor a little over a year ago. Replaced wires/ spark plugs then too.

Check the ecm fuses if they can't communicate using an obd reader then the ecu isn't getting any power different car company's label them differently but look for the ones that are labeled something like ecu, ecm, engine controller, or something like that I hope this helps

Are you getting spark from coil wire when cranking? If so, check the cap & rotor. If not, the most common failure is the crank sensor. If you have a 4,0, you can find it on the drivers side of the bellhousing, in line with the flywheel, just where it's annoying to work on. There is a test you can make, but I don't have the specific test values or the correct terminals to check. (you can find that info in any half decent manual.
Good luck

You said you changed the ecm module, is that the ecm or the ignition module. Do you have access to a scanner to check cranking rpm? That way you can test the new crank sensor and the wiring and the ignition module.

SOURCE: 89 jeep cherokee 4.0 cranks and gets fuel but no

the part that is known to fail in these engines that causes no spark is the Crankshaft position sensor, it is located on th right side of the bell housing as u stand in front of truck, it must be changed from below the truck and is very difficult to get at, here is a photo of the sensor and a brief description of the repair

My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee started knocking. Multiple local mechanics determined it needed new motor. A "reman" motor was puchased ($3600) and installed. On test drive the car ran great then...

All I can say is do some research online find a REPUTABLE shop and let them drive it until it dies. Three things are needed for an engine to run: spark, fuel, compression. I doubt it is a compression problem being that it is a new engine. Something is causing either spark or fuel to drop out, a good mechanic should be able to quickly identify what is missing from the equation. Find a shop with a lab scope that can test sensors that send signals to the engine computer. It could be as simple as a fuel pump getting hot and quitting. Good Luck!

1993 Grand Cherokee died, won't start. Crankshaft sensor replaced

It may be the brain of the jeep. if they get condensation in them from the rain , they can act as you described. It is only about a $30 part @ Pep Boys. It looks like a box with 2 or sometimes 3 plugs coming off of it and it plugs up to the wiring harness, and it mounts on the firewall or the inside fender-wall of your jeeps engine compartment.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee No Start

I would be thinking that there is a good chance that you need to be checking out replacing the computer, if you aren't getting any communication with the proper scan tool then the computer isn't communicating with anything in the vehicle...... I would have guessed first off that the ignition control module might be bad but that is obviously part of the computer also, I would be looking in that direction.

Car turns over great getting fuel and spark but wont start

Spark without fuel = just spark. :) Are you getting fuel movement? You could have a bad/clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pump - could be a few things. Check to make sure you're getting fuel.
