Seems like you are losing pressure in the system as the coolant gets hotter it builds up pressure if you have a small leak when it gets to a certain pressure it will blow out and you lose pressure and the heater will blow cold, run the motor till it gets hot and look for coolant or steam coming out, check the coolant cap while your at it

    Thank you,
My wife says she sees steam coming out, I hope it's not a water pump, but she said it looks like that after she parks. I tasted the fluid, it had a very small take of coolant but not very sweet as it would normally would but was more clear. It looks like it is coming around the windshield wiper reservoir

Why would my heater blow out cool air when sitting still and then hot air when going down the road and then it's not all that hot

Try flushing or blowing high pressure air through the heater core lines. its sludge build up and need to be flushed through heater core only. check antifreeze fluid level. only put in straight antifreeze, do not mix. most people do not know what mixture should be, so be safe and add straight, it will not hurt it, i run 100% straight antifreeze and never had a problem or worry about it ever freezing and cracking my block, heads or radiator cracking.

I have a 2001 dodge stratus and the heater only blowed cold aire now we changed the thermostat and it blows warm air when idling but when driving still blows cold need some help please

where did you buy your thermostat? if you bought a fail-safe style thermostat it could have been no good before you even put it in. also is your tempeture gauge coming up to operating temp?? if it isnt your thermostat may be stuck in the open position allowing the coolant to circulate freely and not actually warm up. i would also check the lines going into the heater core. if one line is hot and the other line is cold than your heater core is probably in need of a flush or replacement.

You might have air in the lines, go ahead and find out if there is a bleeder valve. If so then bleed it after warmed up but watch out that steam is hot.

When driving, heater blows warm air. When idling, cold air.

check your anti-freeze level, I'd bet that you're a little bit low!

2001 Dodge Caravan heater blows cold air when stopped

Have you checked the coolant level? What you describe is exactly what happens if the coolant level is low. When stopped at idle, hot coolant is not circulating through the heater core, so no heat. As the engine increases in rpm's when you pull away from the light, the water pump is spinning quicker, and some coolant is making it to the heater core. So check the level, and if it is low, keep an eye on it to see if it drops again. That of course indicates a leak somewhere. Get it fixed, as overheating the engine leads to costly repairs and worse case a new engine. Let me know how you make out with this.

Heater on driver-side blows barely warm air other vents blow cold

the most probabale cause of this would be a disfunctional hear core if you replace your heater your heater will more than likley work the the way it's supposed to

Heater blows cold air

I had the same problem with the heater only working when accellerating. Found the overflow tank pick up tube was kinked. This of course made my coolant level low. So when the cars hot the coolant would push into the overflow, but when the car cooled the kink would prevent it from flowing back to the radiator.
