the ignition module was new. you suggested checking the pink and black wire for power but what component should i check it at.could it be a ECM problem?

  • Anonymous Jul 31, 2008

yes there is power to the pink & black wire and at the coil terminal too. replaced the ECM also. GOING NUTS trying to find the problem. The only thing i havent replaced is the cam sensor but i think its more of a wiring problem somewhere. You mentioned the ignition switch , how would that effect a no spark? Thanks.

Thats weird mmmm make sure than you have power going to the black and pink wire or pink with black stripe wire when you turn the ignition on, i don't know what else to recomend you since im not close to the car but the only coming problems on these cars is the module or the crank sensor, did the module installed on it was new? or used? if not sure or even if is new call to auto zone
and ask them if they test ignition modules for free i belive they do and if tehy do take the module out and take it to them, for testing, also by the time you remove the igniton coils turn the ignition on, and make sure you are geting power to one of the coil conectors, and the only way to get to the conectors is by removing the coils, and if there is not power then your ignition switch or a lecttrical problem is present, also make sure to do a cotinuity test to the wires coming from crank sensor to ignition module, check them for open or short to ground

1993 buick le sabre 3.8v6.no spark somthing shorted out

those wires are probably going down to the crank sensor if that sensor fails then the car will not start so fix the wiring and try replacing the crank sensor.

Installing ignition module

Unscrew the ignition coil(s) from on top of the module...(leave plug wires attached)....and set aside noting coil position on module....unplug module and replace with a known working module. If there is grease under old module...transfer it to new module.Replace coil(s) and start her up.
TIP. While you are there, why not also change the crank sensor (if it not new).....it is THE trouble maker on these engines.

Need location of ecm/ecu on 88-93 buick regal. parked car next day would not start,no spark , center coil bad , replaced it car ran fine for about 2 weeks, now car won't start no spark but coils test good,...

my name is David ,I live in Austin Texas and do alot of mecchanic / technician work around town. I do have my certifications and have work at dealerships and Autozone as well...with all that being said... if you are not getting spark on this vehicleand it is not likely the coils or the module. The crank position sensor the device responsible for reading the angle ( timing ) of the crankshaft. The crankshaft has notches in it that pass either through or near the crank position sensors magnetic tip. The ignition module then interprets the signal and allows signal ( electrical current) to pass into module and on to ignition coils...then on to spark plugs via spark plug wires/cables. The crank position sensor is located on the back side of the engine in the gap between the engine and transmission housing. it is held in place by one 8mm (metric size) or 5/16 standard size bolt. Use a wrench though unless you have small hands or a 1/4 drive socket set. 9.99 times out of ten it will start if there are no other issues... your welcome
