Check out tps sensor it has a big effect on shifting of vehicle. The data provided by TPS is invaluable for proper startup, idle and easy throttle response of the car. These operations are affected when a bad throttle position sensor feeds erroneous data to the car's computer because of which the:

  • Engine malfunction indicator light (MIL) is turned on
  • The driver of a car experiences difficulty while changing gears.
  • The fuel economy of the car drops drastically.
  • Causes difficulty in setting base-ignition-timing of the car a bad tps causes transmission shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging, engine cut off, hesitation on take off, surge while cruising down highway. it may not be that but try another one and find out. you can test the tps, just unplug connector to it. use a ohms meter and hook one lead to the top and other to the center prongs on tps itself. next move throttle very slow, if good tps will move needle on ohms tester it will sweep up without cutting out. but if you perform this test and the needle hesitates at any time you move throttle plate it is bad. 1 is ground, 2 is signal, the prongs on tps. good-luck

2000 chevy malibu wont shift into 3rd gear

Sounds like an electronic pressure switch or electronic governor. Your engine check light should be on or intermittent and it should have a code. A lot of parts stores or transmission repair shop should be able to tell you with a code reader.

I have a Series 2 commodore SSV Ute, I'm not sure about the other gears but in first gear when I reach 5500 RPM the engine cuts out. That's the only way to describe it. It's like turning the motor off

most likely an rpm limiter sensor that prevents you from blowing the motor
moving from 1st to 2nd or any gear should be done at no more than 4000 rpms as the engine is outside the torque range and is just a waste of fuel

I have a 1992 Chevy pick up 1500 series. 350 engine. The idle is running low on it, were and how can I adjust it?

If the vehicle has a automatic transmission, check the Neutral Safety Switch. If defective from wear it could be sending incorrect signals to the Electronic Control Module which in turn sends signals to the Idle Air Control. It will make the computer think the transmission is in gear and lower the RPMs and then when the transmission is actually in gear the physical load will lower the RPMs even more. To check, set the parking brake and move the gear selector to Neutral and check the RPMs to see if the engine maintains a constant 650 +/-. Next, shift to Drive and check if RPMs drop to and maintain 500 +/-. If it does then you have diagnosed the problem. The original equipment Idle Air Control motors rarely wear out.

My rpms wont go over 3000 on my 94 toyota 4 runner.

the V6 has a rev limiter in gear that keeps it under this in first gear. put the tranny in Power mode if it's an automatic. it will **** more gas, however.

TRUCK WONT GO INTO GEAR AND THE RPMS GO HIGH

sounds as if it has an internal problem with one of the clutch packs or a valve in the valve body not switching correctly and will need some internal work done

Transmission stuck in first gear

You say you don't get a code.Did you check it with a monitor or is the check engine light not on? The cheapest thing to try are the input and output sensors. They are 20-30 dollars a piece. I think they are screwed in on the pass. side of the transmission. If that doesn't cure it you might want a transmission shop to look at it. Good luck and let me know, Dan
