My friend, it means exactly that: Service Vehicle soon ... it could be time for a tuneup of your 12 year old car, it could mean time for an oil change, it could be time for brakes, or change in engine coolant. It could be your transmission requires attention.
You know what you have done with regards to service and maybe this is nothing. On the other hand, your vehicle is telling it needs service ... something. The only way to be sure is to take your 1999 Oldsmobile into your mechanic and have him or her scan your vehicle to read the codes to determine exactly what your car is 'saying'.
If it were me, I believe I would be making the appointment. I would not ignore the notice.
Thanks for your question at FixYa.com today.

I have had the same problem with my 96 aurora. I have a scan tool, but when this happened no codes were shown. My scan tool does not show codes for the Anti-Lock Brake system, or the Air Conditioner system. So, if your ABS light is on, its a problem with the ABS system, if not then there is a problem with the A/C system (which was my problem). There was a pressure sensor on the A/C system that was faulty (on the firewall up top in one of the A/C lines) The part was cheap around $15, but the system will **** out all the coolent as soon as the sensor is loosened or removed, so it should be drained, then have the sensor replaced and probably change the oil in the system at the same time so you dont end up with your A/C compressor succumbing to Black Death. Good luck, i hope this helps.
