Honda civic 2000 lxi radiator leaking

You might have a crack in the radiator. i have an 92 accord and it has a plastic radiator (well the top and bottom of it are plastic) and it was leaking like crazy but if you looked at it when it was cool you could not see any visible cracks. So i suggest you start the car let it warm up enough so the thermostat and fans kick in. once the radiator has some pressure on it, it should be easy to see where the crack is. i hope this helps you out.

There is absolutely no way possible that the air con unit is going to cause an engine coolant "leak". The air conditioner can cause the engine to overheat if the fans are not working properly, but you will see coolant coming out of the radiator cap if it is overheating.

To find a coolant leak you just have to look for it while it is leaking. If you can see it dripping out on the ground, then you should be able to follow it up to see where it is coming from. Cracks in the plastic radiator tanks are common in all Honda vehicles. These cracks can have the characteristic of only leaking after reaching a certain temperature. You will probably have to remove the plastic shrouding from under the vehicle to see many of the leaks that can be coming from the front radiator area.

Water pumps can also leak at only certain temperatures. Sometimes they can fool you also because there are channels on the back of the pump that will direct coolant away from the water pump/ timing belt area in the event of a leak. It can look like it is leaking from the side of the engine that is away from the water pump. Again, you have to LOOK to see where it is originating from.

Possible head gasket put in wrong or possible. make sure radiator cooling fan is coming on. The smoke could be remaining from the water standing in the exhaust if it is fixed it will take a while for that to burn off. Check the timing on the timing belt. change your thermostat. Have your radiator checked for flow. If it is plugged replace it. Intake could be leaking to cause the fluctuating idle. The throttle body can cause the idle to search. Also the timing off can do that.If possible do a combustion leak test in the coolant

Sorry to hear all this has been going on and the obvious hasn't been detected by a shop. All those parts probably would not of had to be replaced. This is a classic systom of a blown head gasket. Not every head gasket blown will have coolant in the oil. Compression leak from a cylinder will enter water passage in head and blow out the coolant because compression is greater pressure than coolant system pressure.

I think you are trying to say that the plastic side tank is leaking. Likely on the seam where it joins the metal part of the radiator? I haven't seen too many sealers that work on those, but the old "standby" two tablespoons of black pepper (no kidding) sometimes will, unless the leak is a large one. There are some sealers on the market that claim they can plug just about any leak, but I have never tried them. (just too many)
The best way to do that repair is by changing the radiator, either with one from a scrapyard or new.
I used pepper in my own two years ago and am still waiting for it to begin leaking. (and heat works fine) Just make sure to drive five or ten miles after adding it or it will clump up and not help at all.

try making sure cooling fans are working by jumping them to the battery and see if they turn on. also could be the thermostat not opening and building up pressure.

most alunium /steel cars need there anti freeze changed at least 1x a year .Electrolis will build up and slow of almost stop the water flow causing heat buildup

heater core ..smells sweet?....you coolant is leaking inside cabin..check top off radiator coolant ..replace heater core

hi from uk from your symptoms of what happened re temp guage risen suddenly it would indicate the temp sender unit on the engine has blown ie is earthing to engine via its screwthreaded body this is just a matter of replacing with a new sender unit hope this helps

The water pump is located along the left side of the engine underneath the plastic covers. You coolant leak is most likely a radiator hose.
