mass air flow sensor would send a code. check the fuel regulator for right pressure low fuel pressure can make the engine stall. also check for an air leak and blocked air vent for the sump.
I had this problem once, albeit on a different vehicle. Try disconnecting the air filter trunking from the throttle block, see what the inside of the throttle block looks like. If it is all black and oily clean it all out thoroughly with a rag or strong tissue, there is a small by-pass drilling in this body which can get blocked.
i have an 06 cobalt with the same issue and when my engine light finally came on it showed up as evap system malfunctioning. This is for the emissions system. My code shown was P0440. This can be caused by a faulty or loose gas cap, a purge valve, a vent valve, or the evap canister. I am waiting on the purge valve to arrive now so should know if that takes car of mine in a week, but i have already replaced my gas cap and the problem is still there. Hope this helps you some
Info:
Some of the classic symptoms, stalling at dead stops. failure to auto lock doors. poor fuel economy. Failure to go to overdrive.
Recommendation:
Go to your local parts store and run the failure codes.
Shop notes:
Your ECU thinks that the engine is running with out moving, During slow down the engine steps down the idle to match ground speed and as a result the engine will not stall. At present it goes directly to idle and stalls due to drag on motor.
Hope this tip helps.
