Overheated and now will not start. I replaced the thermostat and refilled with coolant. Has plenty of starter power and will turn over, but won't fire. Before it over heated it would rev at idle to between 2100 down to 1500 when I started it. Any Help would be appreciated.

I'm not really familiar with JEEP mechanics but if you've replaced your water pump and it's still overheating with full water/coolant level, you should check the thermostat; when it fails, it's a common cause or overheating in all kind of cars
I'm attaching some links to Youtube tutorial about replacing thermostat in a Jeep but you can expand your Google search using terms
Youtube replace thermostat JEEP Liverty
replace thermostat did bleed coolant system check coolant level.because if not engine could have overheated and blowed headgaskets warp or cracked the heads check engine compression.sound like engine got too hot.
Sounds like sticking thermostat. Replace thermostat if you see no leaks anywhere else.
You need to drain out any bad coolant or water when you replace thermostat and refill with concentrated antifreeze until you have at least 50% antifreeze water ratio.
You have to bleed the engine with new antifreeze solution so there's no air. I always go to youtube and see how mechanics do each engine bleed. Search your car and engine and `coolant flush'. don-ohio
maybe it overheated from being low on coolant. Refill and run with hood up and engine gets up to normal operating temp when thermostat opens. Look for leak.
sometimes when an engine gets hot enough it will stop running due to the metal expansion when it is hot.if it cools off it will probably start but don`t run it very long especially without coolant.the thermostat may have seized in the closed position this sometimes happens as when the car is running the temperature flucuates the stat will close and open all the time(won`t close completely).another problem could be a bad head gasket that allowed coolant into the combustion chamber enough that the motor went into what is called hydraulic lock, coolant has filled the combustion chamber enough that the piston won`t move through out its normal travel.i would try changing the thermostat first refill cooling system and let run until the cooling fans have cycled on and off.if it doesn`t overheat and it cranks over when you try to start it then the stat is more than likely the problem.
hard to get to and difficult job...are you sure you dont have cracked head? is there water in the oil....does the oil look milky? look in the radiator is there oil residue in the coolant........
Hope you didn't run your car much when it overheated. this could mean trouble if you did. But as suggested, replace the thermostat.drain the coolant if it has any left, below the thermostat level. It is located at the end of one of the radiator hoses . the housing has a bleeder screw at the outlet of the housing. then remove the housing. the thermostat is located underneath. be careful to replace it the same direction. Clean the contact points on the engine and the housing. And place a little bit of silicone gasket sealer on the gasket and the housing . Make sure the thermostat is settled on the engine part. Carefully replace the housing. And reinstall everything back. refill with coolant half/half water and coolant.Start the car and let it heat up. Then bleed the system with the bleeder screw turning it counter clockwise until all that comes out is coolant. refill radiator again and repeat. Until radiator is full.
