My 2008 chevrolet impala gear shift is stuck in park. After working and wiggling it a lil, it shifts into gear. This started last night. When leaving work it was fine. After i picked my son up from daycare, i started it and it wouldnt go into reverse or drive at first try. I made one other stop and had problems shifting also. This morning when i first started it and put it into drive, it was fine. When i dropped my son off at daycare and restarted it, I had to wiggle it again before it shifted. At work when parking, i notice it was a lil stiff when putting it into park. PLEASE HELP!

This is a common issue on '06+ Impalas, and is most frequent when parking on an incline. It can be minimized by engaging the parking brake before putting the car in Park.

Your brake light switch system controls the shift interlock system, you'll need to check that system first. Could be a shift interlock swith has gone faulty or the linkage is out of adjustment.

My 2008 Chevy impala will not come out of park
The
shifter needs to be inspected. Its quite possible that The
shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.







There
are many other possibilities. But if it was working right up till now and
suddenly this shifting problem occurred then its shifter
assembly alignment issue.

Gear shift stuck in park - brake lights are working - we have checked all the fuses. How do we remove the cover on the shift panel?
First check for a loose vacuum hose to the brake petal. Most models use this safety for engaging the tranny by depressing the brake petal and then selecting the drive or reverse gear.

i dident read all but the car won't go in to gear if the car dos'ent sence you pressing the brake its a safety thing check brake fuse thats seems like what is happing if you nned to the switch for the brake is right above the brake pedel it should have to wires to it but it could be a fuse

2006 Chevy Impala stuck in park
When you turn ignition on it releases a cable that is attached to the shifter also the shifter has a solenoid attached to it that is released when you step on the brake. Both times that I had the problem of button stuck and cant shift out of park the solenoid was sticking and wouldnt release .
