The 'immobilizer' is an integral part of the engine computer and cannot be disarmed. It can, however, be tricked. There is a device used on cars with this system that tricks the computer to think the key is there during remote start. The bypass module, as it is called, learns the transponder code from the key (more advanced models) or just uses a spare key with a transponder in it to trick the engine computer. This requires you to have the key to the vehicle. If you don't have the key, the only option is to get a dealer to cut you one based on your VIN number. You'll have to provide proof of ownership. They do it this way because just anyone could get a VIN number from a parking lot and have a key made if they didn't require proof of ownership.

Now, you didn't give any information about what model car you have and the year, so I can't give you more detailed information on what type of immobilizer system the car has and different ways, if any, that it can be tricked. Keep this in mind when you rate.

2003 Toyota Camry engine immobilizer

The engine immobilizer is an anti-theft system found on many newer vehicles, including the 2003 Toyota Camry. When the engine immobilizer is activated, the car's engine will not start unless the correct key is used. This helps to prevent unauthorized individuals from starting and driving the vehicle.
To deactivate the engine immobilizer, you will need to use the correct key. If you do not have the correct key, you may need to have a new key made or have the immobilizer system deactivated by a professional.
If you are having problems with the engine immobilizer system on your 2003 Toyota Camry, it is recommended to take the vehicle to a Toyota dealership or a qualified mechanic for diagnosis and repair.

Need to override factory keyless entry wont start

First of all you need to programm all ignition keys using suitable diagnostic equipment (VAS, VAG-Com) connected to the data link connector of the car.

You have an electronic immobilizer key recognition problem. Now your key chip is not recognized by the transponder antenna fitted on the ignition switch barrel.

  • Everytime when you had a new key you must programm all available ignition car keys before trying to start the engine with this new key !!!

This warning lamp indicates that the engine is locked by the immobilizer system, and the engine start sequence must be repeat again.

From year 1995 in Audi-VW (VAG) cars is used engine immobilizer. The VAG group immobilizer system consists of an immobilizer ECU which controls the recognition of keys and the Engine Management ECU system. Immobilizer is activated when the ignition key is removed and, together with the engine control unit, largely prevents unauthorized starting of the engine. The system uses a transmitter and receiver unit in the ignition key (transponder). Whenever an attempt is made to start the engine, it transmits a new code to the car's electronics. The immobilizing is only cancelled and car motor electronic receives permission to start engine if the key sends a right authorization code.

The car wont start sometimes and sometimes it will. The engine doesn't even turn over but it's not a battery problem because we had that checked. What could it be?

    Dear Madam or Sir,

this is a well known problem with the immobilizer system.

See the following official tech bulletin :

    Affected vehicles:
All models with Bosch RB8 instrument panel up to 2002 MY.

    Problem:

Engine starts and cuts out immediately.

Trouble code stored: 17978 (P1570) - engine control module (ECM), immobilizer active.

Trouble code stored: 18058 (P1650) - CAN data bus, instrumentation - no signal.

    Cause
    Immobilizer fault.
System arms when ignition switched ON.

    Remedy:
Access fault memory. If trouble codes present fit modified instrument panel (incorporating immobilizer control module).

Note: Immobilizer can only be programmed using diagnostic equipment.
