I drained the cooling system and refilled with antifreeze. Now it runs hot. I know the water pump and thermostat are ok

If you filled it with straight anti-freeze, it will run hot. Anti-freeze needs to be diluted with water to work properly. Use the guidelines on the jug to figure the proper mixture for your area. If unsure, usually 50-50 is a good mix (but I live in the SE US). I was guilty of the straight anti-freeze usage in the '80's and was told I had to mix it...and when I did, everything worked properly.
Hope this helps...if you didn't use straight antifreeze, then this is of no help :)

I changed the coolant and now it's running so hot that I can only go a few miles before I have to stop and let it cool off. It was OK before I changed the coolant. I used the proper orange type and I...

What I would check before replacing the thermostat. Is to make sure that you got enough coolant in the engine. When you are refilling the coolant, the thermostat keeps you from getting any coolant in the engine. All you will fill is the radiator. The thermostat has to open to allow coolant in the engine block. So double check to see if you have enough coolant.

Here are the least expensive items in order of least to greater...Check for proper coolant level in small tank next to the radiator. If low... refill to proper level. make sur eyou use the right stuff for you particular engine . Any good auto parts place can help with the "right stuff"
if OK, next...
Replace the radiator cap. if still getting hot, replace the temp sensing valve ( thermostat) at the engine side of the top radiator hose. If it looks grungy, you may still need to get the whole system flushed.

This is a very messy job that removes the foul stuff in the cooling system which may prevent coolant circulation.
If the water pump is defective and it was changed 2 months ago take it back to the place that installed it.
Check for loose belt driving the water pump first

I have a 2002 Cherokee 2.4 sport petrol engine Jeep. Recently the oil warning light ( red) on the dash board stays permanantly on. The oil level checks OK and the engine appears to be running OK. Could it...

Oil pressure sending unit should be located somewhere near the oil filter. check that the wire is attached to it and is not grounded. If engine is not making any tapping noises chances are that the sender is bad. If after changing it, the problem persists, put a mechanical gauge on the system (attach where sender is) and read actual oil pressure (should be no lower than 15psi when hot but I prefer better than 20 hot at idle, 40-50 running at 2000rpm)
