What is the role of the air intake duct. I bought a salvage car and it came with the duct damaged. Its quite difficult to come by one and even though the car works ok, the fuel intake seems quite high and...

The air intake duct directs an uninterrupted flow of fresh air into the engine which passes thru the air filter along the way. On some vehicles, they may be an extra container-like device attached to the side of the ducting along the way. This is a sound dampener. It is designed to reduce the throttle noise naturally created by accelerating.

Where is mass air flow senser on a 1989 buick regal

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The BUICK Regal Mass Air Flow sensor is usually installed in the intake air duct between the air filter and the throttle body mounted on the intake manifold. Also check the throttle body for mass air flow sensors location.
On mass air flow sensors with a sense wire, this wire can become contaminated with dust particles. These particles can be removed with automotive solvents that are safe for the use on mass air flow sensors. Before replacing the mass air flow sensor check for air leaks in the connecting air ducts and intake manifold. These leaks can cause similar symptoms as a malfunctioning mass air flow sensor.

Bad or contaminated BUICK Regal Mass Air Flow sensor can possibly cause a wide range of various vehicle drivability problems such as stalling, especially when the engine is cold, misfiring, poor acceleration, etc. In addition, a problem with the Mass Air Flow sensor often causes the "check engine" or "service engine soon" light in the vehicle instrument panel to illuminate.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Code reading

Hi. this code represents an issue within the mass air flow sensor. it is malfunctioning at this point. the mass air flow sensor Measures the volume and density of air entering the engine, so the electronic control module can determine how much fuel is needed to maintain the correct air to fuel mixture. There are two basic types: heated wire and heated film (grid); both work on the same principle.

A faulty MAF will cause driveability problems resulting from incorrect ignition timing and improper air/fuel ratios.

this device is located Under hood, center, upper engine area, mounted on rear of air intake duct

To replace a MAF sensor:
  • Locate the sensor.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Unplug the wiring harness and vacuum hose.
  • Unscrew the two screws holding the sensor in place.
  • Reverse the procedures to install a new sensor.
Please rate and god bless:)
