Well it could be the pump itself going bad or a short in the wiring, possible clogged fuel filter. There is a valve what looks like a tier valve cap on the fuel rail if you can get you hands on a pressure gauge and hook it up, you should see the pressure increase and decrease, if it does not start looking elsewhere.

I had this problem with my 99 Durango and went to AutoBeef.com to discover this was a major problem with 98 & 99 Durangos. The fix was easy -- PCM "brain" was exchanged with a refurbished PCM "brain" from an online PCM company in Florida. You can google as I can't remember name of company. I called them and they said - Yep this is the fix -- the guys told me 3 screws all I had gone to several mechanics and dealers -- none could figure it out. I was so grateful that someone gave me the clue I needed.

It may be that the alternator is malfunctioning, which is one of the 9 common causes of a vehicle's loss of power. See the article on this:

Hope this helps!

could be Fuel Injectors, are bad ?
all you need is # 1 Fuel Injector, to go out that will not get Fire, and Fuel Mixture to Spark Plug.

My car runs only on 5 cylinders. During a check-up it showed that cylinder 5 doesn't get any gas. I have checked the thing that gets the gas into the cylinders by switching place on them.
I have mesured that all the cables are whole, even the dead earth. I have switched the controller box with an exactly the same numberwise, and still cylinder 5 doesn't get any fuel.
By starting all the 6 cylinders get gas at the same time but then it starts to go round between the cylinders but skips cylinder 5.
