I have a Renault Megane 1.4 16v on a 04 plate, the engine revs itself from normal tick over speed to approx. 2000 revs. The garage have fitted a new ECU and re mapped it, throtle body, potentiometer on throtle, timing belt and sensor. They still can't fix it, have you any ideas.

Have you tried the idle control valve, these can stick & cause the engine to rev high. Have had this problem on a few cars, a Vectra being the worst, but quick clean with brake cleaner & good as new.

'51' plate renault megane expression pos. fuel fault?

i had the same problem it was the mass air box its a thing that fits into the air intake after the air filter costs about £100 new from euro parts less from a car junk yard and you can fit yourself in about 1 hour or less, you have to remove air filter and engine cover and at the back you will see a pipe about 50mm dia with a plug going into it unplug this and remove circlips fit new part reconnect the plug and circlips and car should run fine refit cover and filter this is also the part problem when your car will not rev same on citroens and other french cars

Hi my name is sarah my renault megane every things ok but the m.p.h. niddle not move;n an it;s not clocken up the mileage, but will work after be;n run but it dose flutter up an down for a bit then ok...

hi sarah your problem is related to a speedometer sensor switch located on the gearbox its an electrical speedo on the megans, its fairly handy to replace, and if you were to go into any renault garage and purchase the part by giving the year make and model any garage will fit this within 10 min cheeper than renault dealership , goodluck

Speedo fault with a Renault megane coupe 1998

Check fuses because the one that controls ciggarette lighter can often blow and this can be a sympton of that, could be loose. Looks like a bad connection from one of the speed sensors which control the abs, do you get abs light stay on. Could be wiring under the bonnet, check all visible wiring too. Failing them it`ll have to be an auto electrician.
