My 1999 chyrsler town and country mini van 3.3 lt engine is having problems. This Morning my speedometer quit working and my car is not shifting gears. It wont switch gears properely and the service engine lite came on. Just replaced starter and cylinoid and it was running fine until this morning.

VSS - vehicle speed sensor possible for the shifting an speedometer problem , don't know about PS . Are you referring power steering ? This would have noting too do with not shifting or speedometer not working .

P1684 means the battery was disconnected in last 50 engine start/stop cycles, did you disconnect the battery?
P0135 indicates the heater circuit of the before catalyst O2 sensor has failed.

They are indeed probably related. You should have your instrument panel taken out and checked for short circuits or damage to the connections. They can interfere with the the alternator's voltage regulator, which is in the panel. You would most likely be better off by buying an entire used unit from an auction site.

VECHICLE SPEED SENSOR IS BAD.

transmission speed sensor needs replacing about 40.oo$ at the dealer sits on the right side of transmission looking from the front of the radiator g s.

your ultradrive transmisson has failed, and your stuck in limp home mode. you have 3rd and reverse.

that was the good news.


the bad is that you need a new transmission. the ultradrive transmissions are very problematic. do a wikipedia.org search on chyrsler ultradrives and than write a really angry letter.

It is the speedometer that doesn't work? What problem do you have? Does the transmission shift or is it stuck in 2nd?

Try pressing the trip odometer reset button for 5 seconds. It will flash an error code. Then the odometer lights will flash, a bunch of error codes flash. Let it finish.

I found this on fixya before, and it worked for my van. I didn't replace anything.

the cluster needs to be calibrated to the pcm before the speedo and tach will work. You will have to take it to the dealer to have it done. The last time I had to do it, it cost me 70 dollars.
