EGR valves themselves rarely fail. Many are vacuum operated, and with a honda, it is a mess of vacuum wires underhood. I would have the car checked for vacuum leaks, and what actually controls the vacuum to the EGR valve first. Don't replace unless your certain it is the valve. Might be a cheap fix. ; )
Hi, you can usually buy these without a part number. Who is asking you for a part number? I think the parts store may ask you for engine size (2.2 liter) and is it VTEC or not VTEC. If yours is VTEC, it should say it on top of the engine. Here is an example of the part you need: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Duralast-EGR-Valve/1999-Honda-Prelude/_/N-jdpqxZ93xpy?counter=0&itemIdentifier=229480_13250_0_
Here is another one: http://www.partstrain.com/store/index.php?VN=4294967190+4294967031+4294965397+4294967247+4294967142&Nr=AND(universal:0)&N=0&Ntt=EGR%20Valve
each maker has their own part number.
Here is the location on the engine:
please let me know if you have more questions and thanks for using FixYa.
Here is a picture of where the EGR Valve is located. Replacing it is fairly simple and straightforward. A vacuum line and a couple of bolts. You'll see what you have to do when you look at it.
If you are replacing the EGR Valve due to the Check Engine Light (MIL) being on with a DTC P0401 then I suggest contacting your Honda Dealer. There was a Product Update Campaign (PUD) in the fall of 1999 that corrected the problem.
Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.
