I have Hyundai sonata 2005 V4. One day while I was driving on the highway, I felt a sudden delay in acceleration and it was like inconsistent (on and off) acceleration for quick seconds and it ran back to normal. Then, a month later, I drove my Hyundai on the snow day and it stalled suddenly while driving on the highway, when I was moving at about 60 mph. The check engine light was on (later found out it was P0733) and the oil pressure light and battery light was on as well. The car did not ignite back immediately after the stall and ultimately, after couple tries the battery died. Then, I put in new battery and the check engine light and other lights were off and car started again. It seemed like disconnecting the battery reset all of the warning lights. Next morning I started my car and it started just fine and when I was driving on the uphill road at 45 mph (it probably shifted to 3rd gear), the car stall again and all three warning lights went back on. I tried to start the car again since I had faith in my new battery but it did not start immediately after the stall. So, I rolled down the car back to the house in neutral and next morning I started the car and it started just fine... but only the check engine light was still on. Now I am scared to drive this… I know it is a long story but I was trying to be as specific as possible. Does anyone have suggestions on what might have gone wrong? Thanks for your time!

the code is "third gear ratio incorrect". You might try to drive your car in second gear (manually selected to avoid third) to a transmission shop and see if they can diagnose your problem. Clutches for the third gear may damaged causing a transmission lock up. The battery seems to die pretty quickly so you might have the alternator checked as well.

I understand. Thank you for your response. : )
By the way, does anyone know if 10 yr powertrain warranty covers this transmission problem?

SOURCE: Check engine light stays on.

You've made the correct decision. Let the dealership diagnose the issue. They'll tell you EXACTLY what the problem is and what's needed to fix it (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc.).

SOURCE: 2000 Hyundai Sonata GLS V6 - problem started last

Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on. You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE and perhaps eventually fix the problem.

SOURCE: Engine cut off while driving 2004 Hyundai Sonata.

BEST SOLUTION: Take/Tow your vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealership and pay the diagnostic fee... they will tell you exactly what the problem is and the cost of parts/labor to fix it... at least this way you'll know what the problem is and what's required to fix it.

SOURCE: 2004 Sonata stalls out for no reason then won't start

My 2004 Sonata is doing the same thing. The engine light comes on and then the engine just dies. My mechanic put it on the diagnostic machine and can't find anything wrong with it. So did the crank angle sensor fix the problem on your car scottyinauss? I am going to print out your input and take it to my mechanic. Thanks.

I have a 2005 Hyundai sonata v6 bought used. mechanics cant figure it out and ive done all I can with no luck. car only goes 5-10 mph and wont go past 2k rpm

Is the accelerator blocked some kind of way? Maybe something is under the foot pedal. Also fuel flow like filter blockage or a bad pump.

I have 2000 hyundai sonata, 4cyl...bought 6 mos ago..i noticed the rpm's go all the way to 3 when on highway...and transmission delays to switch gears....will i have transmission problems. pleae tell me...

You may need to have your transmission serviced. That would be a filter and fluid change. Any fast lube place can do that for you. I should think that if there was a problem with the transmission, the check engine light would come on. 3000 rpms does seem a bit high for the highway. Of course, you did not say how fast you were going. My wife tends to have a heavy foot in our 07 Elantra. She keeps the rpms up there around 2500rpm. That's about 80mph. My sincere condolences for your loss. God Bless.

We have a 2005 Hyundai Sonata and both headlights suddenly stopped working. The fog lights and parking lights work just fine but neither headlight will turn on. Both lights are newer bulbs so I would not...

with or without DRL (day time running lamps)

if without...
since both headlamps have their own fuse I would start by testing the headlamp (low) relay

if however, the high beams do not work either, then you may have a more serious wiring concern

let me know if you need any further assistance

2005 Hyundai Sonata. Rear wheels very HOT

Did you remember to release the e brake?

Sounds like brakes hanging, foot on brake, or something that causes brakes to be on all the time, at least a little.

Yes this will damage everything that you described..and more. Brakes will work poorly...
