I have a 2002 Nissan xterra and the battery recently died. I tried to jumpstart the battery and it did not work however the guys who jumpstarted it could not see clearly which end was positive and negative due to the blizzard. I replaced the battery and the car now runs but now my cd player and radio and clock screen will not work.

03 xterra .when i got home i parked for the rest of the day next day no start .got new batt new alternator know for some reason the batt keep drining .if i jumpstart it istart right away. Any adias?

Use amp meter between battery ground and disconnected wire to read drain. Next, pull one fuse at a time to see which circuit has the drain, and also try feeling the top of all relays to see if one is warm even thou everything is turned off. Stuck relay is common issue. If you find a fuse that stops the drain, troubleshoot that circuit to find fault. Think of things such as glove box door latch misadjusted that might make light stay on.

2002 buick lesabre won't jumpstart. Car ran fine

There are a couple of factors here:
  1. If you noticed the car getting harder to start when warm lately, it could be the starter is bad; a bad starter will work when cold but once it heats up, will require more and more power to turn over
  2. Bad battery; a dead battery won't turn the car over even with a jump; it would need a slow charge to work again; even sealed batteries have caps that can be pried open to do a cell check (battery cell checkers inexspensive at the auto parts store) if you have 1 dead cell, the battery needs replacement
  3. Corrosion; just because the posts and cables may be clean at the battery, doesn't mean there's no corrosion on the other ends of the cables
Hope this answers your question and gives you a good place to start. All the best.

Car is completely dead, like somebody shot it dead! No sounds, no light, can't shift out of park into neutral or anything....everything completely dead...no warning whatsoever!

Always clean the battery terminals before jumping. An extremely dead battery may not accept a jump as it serves as a 'buffer" instead of helping. If you do get it started, charge battery with a battery charger then have alternator and battery tested for proper operation and check belt condition and tension as well.

My 2009 hhr won't start. The first time the dealer said there was a wire that was loose wire to the fuse box, fixed wire. The second time the dealer said the battery was bad, replaced battery. The third...

sounds like a bad ground somewhere. that can burn out power wires due to a high amp draw and cause the battery not to charge. try hooking up the negitive cable directly to the engine to jumpstart it. if that works and the car dies as soon as you disconnect the cables a bad ground is very likely. and I have noticed the new gms are very weak in the charging/battery department. They are using very cheep batterys ,die very easy. also check fuses.

My 96 nissan quest died while driving

Check your battery with a good volt meter , you should have on average 13.2 volts when fully charged . If not check to be sure your belt tension is correct and it’s not slipping. If the belt isn’t slipping take your alternator to your local parts place and have it checked out . If you have good charge in the battery check to see if your engine has a distributor or if it’s a coil pack system . If it is distributor check the pick up coil . If it’s has gone bad you will get no spark to your plugs .

You may try replacing the battery and the battery cables cause they may possibly be fryed from the cross-over and if that doesn't work you might have to replace the fuse box and the fuses running into them
