When I attempt to use my remote to open the trunk, I hear the mechanism attempt to open the truck but, it does not work. I removed the mechanism (easy, 2 screws) and hit the remote again and the little tab that fits into the latch (when installed) barely moves and springs back. Is there any fix for this item other that purchase a new one?

Try spraying some WD40 inside the mechanism. Drown the thing in it. It won't hurt it at all. Wipe off the excess and exercise it to free it up. Should do the trick.

SOURCE: chevy blazer 95 with stuck trunk

I was able to get two wedges between the glass and the plastic trim. From that I used a scope to see inside and find the mechanism to release the window. Once I got the glass open, I removed the handle, and two screws from each side of the trim and removed the trim.

Once the trim was removed I had a small opening and could see the problem. The end of the latch has a small blue plastic (why plastic??) catch that broke.

Rather than taking the door apart and finding a replacement, I heated a screw driver and made a slot in the plastic. Next I used a heavy duty zip tie and connected the two pieces (plastic catch and metal part that opens the latch). I left some slack in the connection and all works great.

Not sure how long this will last, but for now I have the back opening. I will look at replacing the plastic piece, but not sure if a total new mechanism is needed.

Thanks
Stan

SOURCE: 1998 Chevy Cavalier trunk release issue PLEASE HELP

Well I had the same problem after I ran into a tree from the back. I hadnt opened my trunk since the incident and when I finally opened it it wouldnt close.
If it will hold the ball point pen, then its not the lock mechanism. But If you look at the bar that it connects to, it might be obstructed. I had to hammer the hell out of the metal parts surrounding the bar to knock the metal parts down. And it closed. So the problem was that the connecting bar was too short. So try to knock all the metal around it to free it and make it a longer bar.

SOURCE: trunk latch wont hold shut on my 02 cavalier

Make sure it is not binding/sticking where you pull the release cable.

Drench the entire works in WD-40. Push it back and forth until it moves with no resistance.

Make sure the part that hooks onto the latch hasn't come loose enough to not slide over when it makes contact.

If that doesn't work, take the whole thing off. You'll have to anyway to replace it. Chances are with it disassembled you'll see what's wrong.

SOURCE: my key wont unlock the trunk anymore but the remote opener does.

There is a cable that runs from the key cylinder to the latch mechanism. There are clips that hold the cable housing in place, and if one of those comes loose then turning the key just moves the housing without releasing the latch. Check the clip closest to the latch. To get the trunk open drop the back seat, crawl in, and pull on the cable.

It is also possible that the cable is broken or damaged and needs to be replaced -- I assume you will then need to replace the enrite assembly.

I would have someone repeatedly press the release button whilst someone pulls up on the trunk.

If that doesn't work, call out out a mobile auto locksmith. They have 'tricks'.

2011 Hyundai Elantra trunk won't open but can hear mechanism working. The latches that allow back seats to be lowered are in trunk and there is no keyhole on trunk to open. How can we get into trunk?

Does your model have the anchor point for the child seats on the back shelf? If carefully remove each of the plastic cover you can get access to the seat release mechanism at the seat end.
Try this YouTube link to see if it helps. There should be an emergency trunk release on the inside of the trunk lid.

I have a 2004 a6 and my trunk will not open i hear it unlocking but will not open how can i get it open

Hey Jeff.. have you tried to open the trunk while you are putting pressure down on it? Try pushing down while using the remote and the pull up.. If it opens, the trunk is being held down with too much pressure for the release to work.. the gasket could be causing it not to release.. or the latch is too tight.. either can be easily remedied.

My trunk button is broken and i can;t get my things out the trunk

What do you mean by "my trunk button"? Are you referring to your key-less remote? Or the yellow button in the glove box? First check to make sure that you have not accidentally set the valet switch to LOCK. That will disable the remote & the yellow button from working. Info on how to do that is in your owners manual.
FYI, there was a technical service bulletin on your key-less remote. Buick redesigned it [they had problems with the trunk opening accidentally] If you need a new key-less remote, the new part number is P/N 25678792.
If the solenoid for the power trunk lock has failed, the remote will not work. Assuming you can not open the trunk using the trunk key, there is one last method to get into the trunk. You must remove the rear seat assembly. Then remove any plastic or paper covering which may separate the trunk from the rear seating area. Using a good flashlight, a 3/8" drive ratchet, several extensions [totaling 3 feet in length} and the proper flex socket [most likely 8mm, 10mm or 13mm] you can remove the three bolts which hold the latch mechanism from the inside of the trunk lid. The trunk lid will then open. At this point, you can get your stuff and fix the problem with the power trunk mechanism.

Trunk will not open with the door OR remote buttons. I can it hear it "clicking" but it is not releasing the trunk lid. I do not have a key for the trunk. What could the problem be?

sounds like it could be the latch mechanism is seized(rare but does happen) and you could try forcing the trunk lid open while using the remote button at the same time and it may pop open, other wise the release motor is not working properly(motor making noise but not moving),you should get a trunk key made just for this type of reason(any thing electrical or electronic will fail).otherwise you will have to access to the trunk some how to repair the problem.

Trunk will not release with key remote but i hear click noise from fuse block on passenger side dash i have no manual so i dont know what fuse operates what also never have found any other trunck release...

If the actuator mechanism is functioning (you hear the click) the next step is to see if the cable is connected to the latch. Open your trunk and press the button - watch what happens. You may have to manually 'lock' the trunk with the trunk lid open to observe the action. You can always unlock this latch with your key if necessary.

Let me know what happens ... good luck

On my 2002 vw jetta the trunk will not open i have tried both the lever on side of door as well as the button on my key i have also crawled into the trunk from the backseat to use the emergency handle...

· There is no motor per say, (a servo that pulls the cable, youd should hear it, every time other then unlocking with key, or pulling inside emergency latch) the cable that connects to the trunk latch mechanism. There is a servo that opens the trunk when you unlock with key fob, or driver side activation. In the trunk pulling on emergency handle, it is pure cable action. One of the most reported problems is that a trunk will not close. In this instance the usual cause is a broke spring in trunk latch. In your case I am guessing that the cable has become detached from locking mechanism. I have not had this problem, however if I did, my first attempt would involve removing the trunk lid linker, there are about 8 or so screws (with felt on them so they are not so noticeable), remove all screws, liner should almost fall off when all screws are removed. I then could inspect latch, manually unlock, then stand outside of care to fix problem: reattach cable, replace latch, replace cable, there may be some other alternatives depending on specific situation.
