SOURCE: high revs when changing up through the gears
it is just one of those cars that drive like that its different but you need to change your driving style to suit
SOURCE: 94 honda del sol's engine revs up and down
I know exactly what you are talking about, it will go high to about 2 to 4k rpms, then back down to 1k in intervals of about 3 seconds. It is either the idle air position sensor, or the throttle body position sensor, hondas are famous for it. The parts are cheap, about $20-$30, and fairly easy to install when you find it. I suggest a Haynes Manual for installation to make it a lot easier if you don't know where it is. Good luck, hope all goes well.

To begin with, if you are revving a cold engine to 6000 RPM, you are asking for a blown engine. Most OBD vehicles are equipped with a rev limiter that will cut off fuel at 3000 to 4000 rpm to prevent you from over-revving your engine and blowing it up. If yours is revving to 6000 RPM cold, then the rev limiter, for some reason is not working while it is cold. I have no explaination for this. The best thing I can tell you is to stop revving your engine so high when it is cold unless you really want to see what an engine looks like after is has gone off like a grenade.

Hi
one of 3 faults
1 MAF sensor also Known as air mass sensor
2 EGR valve, this is most common with the 4000 rev limit and a top speed of say 50 mph
3 air leaks or tears in air pipes or poor seals.
I would be tempted to clean both the EGR and MAF sensor before spending any money though, these parts ofetn work much lonegr when clean

Check the high idle control valve. Also when is the last time you had a tune up? How many miles do you have, and has the transmission filter ever been replaced? Spark plugs, check plug wires, What year? Does it have a distributor cap and rotor? Fuel filter? Air filter? Those are the regular tune up related projects for the do it yourselfer. If you change the trans filter, try adding the "Lucas" tranny fluid. Helps out when tranny's start have a hard time shifting or uneasy shifting. If check engine light is on, check out the local autozone, run a scan and see what pops up, then post your results and we can go from there. Little more info about the specifics of your car. Year? Model? Hope this helps.

Is the check engine light on? Do you know of any trouble codes? Possibly a faulty throttle position sensor.
