I have a 1989 Toyota Supra GA70, It has an A340E Autoatic Transmission. The problem is sometimes during takeoff it is very sluggish, this only happens sometimes, and other time it takes off normally. During the sluggish takeoff the OD/OFF light begins flashing, this is how the ECT ECU displays an error, so i bridged the specied terminls in the diagnostics port and read the code. The code that was displayed indicated an error with the solenoids in the transmission. What could be the problem? Thanks, Boris.

EASY! first take down the valve body and remove the soleniods, they may not need replacing, inspect and cean them, it could just be debris! reinstall everything, if the problem still occurs replace just the solenoids

Our 1989 Toyota won't go over 50 mph, won't reverse, was told needs transmission work, but want to know if non-working speedometer could be the cause because it doesn't "recognize" to shift...

Hi!

The speedometer effect the shifting of the transmission. But not having a Reverse has nothing to do with the speedometer. So all I can say is : Before you spend lot of money on fixing the transmission , Change your transmission fluid and filter , Use some fresh good brand of Transmission fluid and take your car for a test drive again and see if there is any change. If not then fix your speedometer then try again, If the problem is not solved then have your transmission serviced by tranny Shop. Good luck
