The initial diagnosis is a flat battery. (This should give you a continuous chatter). Failing that as a solution the starter is faulty and what you hear is the solenoid on the starter pulling in but the starter is not responding. It could be worn brushes in the starter or bad contacts in the solenoid itself. If it is just a soft click, the relay for the starter solenoid is working but the solenoid is inoperative

Car won't Crank/start

With a voltage meter see how many volts are at the starter terminal. If not 12+ volts you have a bad connection. Check connection at the starter solenoid. Does it have 12+volts? Short the solenoid. Does it put voltage to the starter?

Check the battery. After that check the starter solenoid. The starter itself is ok since you hear 'clicking.'

1995 geo tracker won't start. I've replaced everything except the ignition switch. It used to click when i turn the key, now it won't even click.

DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY AND RECONNECT, THIS SHOULD RESET THE BRAIN.

ALSO...WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY, LISTEN TO HEAR IF YOU CAN HEAR THE FUEL PUMP COME ON...IF NOT, GUESS WHAT? HOPEFULLY NOT!... BUT,YOU MAY NEED TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP, IF YOU CAN'T HEAR IT WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY, AFTER YOU'VE RESET THE BATTERY!

HOPE THIS HELPS!
