My '98 Honda Accord shuts down totally while driving. It then turnsover but again immediately shuts down again. If it sits for a half hour or so it then runs fine until the next time - a week or so. It has happened 3 times. The shop ran diagnostics, drove the car and let it idle but could not duplicate the problem.

  • Sound a little like block exhaust or exhaust system starting to fail. If not this, the spark plugs are suspected. Have an old set of plugs around that you can replace to find out. Good luck.

SOURCE: stalls at idle

I had the same issue with the same car....turned out to be my Idle Air Control Valve. The mechanic cleaned it out and so far my car runs fine. Actually, a little better than before. It wound up costing me $88.00 for the mechanic and $45.00 for the tow. Hope this helps you out.

Oh by the way, it would've cost me $475.00 to get the part replaced...

1. Your fuel pump is going bad.

2. Your brake pads has gone flat too.

3. Have a look at your plugs and fuses.

See an expert if you are confused.

Please rate afterall has been looked at.

i think there was a re call for this car & there was a problem with ignition switch. i was searching on other forums for the fix. i got a fix that there is a problem with ignition switch. so just try & replace ignition switch which would not cost u more than $100. Try it & post if your problem is fixed. Also if u have any othr solution then also fix this problem.

Problems with a new car should be under warrenty. Take it back to your dealer as attempting to repair it may void your warrenty and cost you big money.

98 Honda Accord LX stalls while driving then shuts off

Does it start immediaetly back up or do you have to let it sit and cool down a bit before it will restart? These are popular for internal distributor problems when they get older/high mileage.

1995 honda accord will shut off while driving for no reason as if the key was shut off. Let vehicle sit for a minute and it starts up

I chased this same problem on my 99 Accord for almost a year and a half replacing just about everything from the Alternator to the fuel pump. It turned out the be the main relay for the car. The part was in the ballpark of $25.00. Mine was located on the passengers side floor board panel just in front of the door. Hope this sends you in the right direction.

Car dies while driving, now it won't start sometimes

Could be a fuel pump that is going bad. Some times when fuel pumps go bad they cavitate and pump not just gas but also air. If you get too much air in the line and not enough gas the car won't start. Have a mechanic check your fuel line pressure.
