VW 2004 V-6 Touareg: I have un-indentified grinding, shimming in my front end. It's not bad tires, out of balance tires nor engine related. At 2000 RPM/50-65 mph a thumping noise, even in neutral, more pronounced when engine warms up. At low RPMs slowing down or low speed a grinding or clothes washer swishing or grinding noise. So far mechanics cannot ID source.

Find a shop with a 'rolling road' or 'electric chassis ears'.

Chassis ears are microphones you place under or around the car and drive it listening to each microphone to locate the noise.

Rolling road you can listen whilst going nowhere.

Sound like you have a collapsed engine mount allowing engine to rub somewhere.

Front end shake, cant fin`d any bad components

You might have unbalanced front tires that ahve gone bad because of bad front end alignment. Get the vehicle to your tire store to have them do a front end alignment and a free tire balancing.

Brake Pad Replacement,2004 VW Touareg,V6 instructions

Same as any other vehicle.

1. Raise and support vehicle
2. Remove tire/wheel
3. Loosen/remove the two caliper bolts
4. Slide caliper off the rotor.
5. Use a C-Clamp to depress the caliper piston
6. Remove old pads from caliper
7. Install new pads on caliper
8. Install caliper/tighten caliper bolts
9. Install tire/wheel
10.Lower vehicle
11 Move to next wheel/repeat

Some people take a turkey baster and remove some of the brake fluid from the master cylinder prior to depressing the caliper piston because it can over flow. If you choose to do that just add the fluid back when finished so it is at its proper level.

2000 vw jetta 1.8 automatic shifts hard between 3rd and 4th gear

Shop for a rebuilt transmission, or get an estimate from AAMCO for a rebuild job, but it won't be cheap. Get at least 3 estimates before you decide how to proceed. Good luck.

Need to remove headlight assembly on a 2004 Volkswagon Touareg. I can't locate the removel clip. (last step)

Once you turn the octagon screw to release the light and push it forward or out of the front of the vehicle, take a light and look to the left side if your working on the driver side or the right side if your working on the passenger side and you will see a metal tab release. Take a long flat head screw driver and press down toward the ground gently. The headlight will be released and the whole assembly comes out as it has a plug/electrical connection on the back of the assembly. I just replaced my headlights, I have a 2004 Touareg with 44,000 miles and have already gone through 2 sets of headlights. The VW dealer will want $300.00 to replace 1 side! They have lost their minds. How long have you had yours and what engine do you have? Just curious if you have had any problems? My Touareg has just needed tires, brakes, headlights. I have done the brakes as well. They want around $900.00 + for front plus about 8 for the rear. If you need anything just hollar and if you have any questions just let me know if I canhelp.
