Try disconnecting and connecting back battery, it reset the ECU, it can be a problem with the computer, but also a sensor that had gone faulty when replacing battery.
It can also be a short or some open contact caused by moving some wire or connector when the battery has been replaced.
If you cannot reset the ECU by disconnecting battery for a while go to a garage to check what the fault is.

Oil pressure indicator light comes on

Hey Joe,
Are you sure it's the hydraulic oil low pressure or is it the engine oil low pressure light? Check the engine oil for being low, over full, filter change, right type of oil, leaks, air filter, spark plug, clean air intake, battery getting a good charge, if that stuff is ok, then find your oil pressure switch and change that out.
But it if it is the hydraulic oil light, check for leaks, that is a high pressure system so don't put your hand by hydraulic leaks use cardboard or something to check for leaks, a pin hole leak can cause severe damage to your skin from a high pressure injection from fluid.
Let me know if this helps and we can go from here

Battery not holding charge, recently changed alternator, and put new battery, car ran fine. then was forced to park car and not use. car satfor 4-5 months then the problems started

Hi Gene:
I'd suggest trying to start from the beginning with this.
Try disconnectinf the battery and charging it fully.
When you re-connect it, the "service engine light" may not be on . that would be nice. If there is a problem the light will come back on. Make sure the gas cap is screwed on tight.
The battery not holding a charge is ypically a separate problem from the service engine light.

Check engine light is on but it needed an oil change and i got one but the light hasnt gone off, how do i reset it?

The check engine light does not refer to oil changes, this is for emmision and fuel management as well as a diagnostic tool for other engine components. The only wasy to clear this is to have the dealer clear them or repair what ever is causing the light. It will however clear it self after about 20 times of starting the car and the computer not seing any more bad scans from what ever caused the light to come on in the first place. You can have Auto Zone pull the codes from your car and tell you what caused the light to come on in the first place. To clear the aoil change light turn the key on and press the gas pedal 3 times all the way to the floor without the engine running.

Battery light is on.wont hold a charge.starts after hooking up battery charger.thanks

If battery light is on while engine is running, then the charging system is bad. That is, you will need a new alternator. If the battery is a couple years old, you may have now stressed it a lot also. Expect it to show signs of failure too, quite soon if not already. First thing is to change out the alternator. Put the battery on charge for a while too. Then after new alternator, see if you have weak starting problems over next week or so.

Hello your battery light is an indication battery is not being charge cause your alternator , will cause the battery light check the belt is it is on and good boost and use a volt meter you should have 12.7 volts up to 13.79 if lower witch i strongly suspect you will need to change alternator and your battery all you can do is charge it and see if it will hold a charge when a alternator does what yours did it usually finishes the battery.Your check engine light you will need to have a OBD2 Scan completed to retrieve the engine fault to properly repair most garages charge $25.00 and up.

Battery keeps dying

Battery failure can be caused by multitudes of issues but the two most prevalent are.
1. Bad battery or aged battery. The battery itself if old can have a dead cell.. this means an area of the battery isnt functioniong properly. Its a sealed batter so no way to fix just the area. The battery would need to be replaced. Look for corosion on the terminals, tight connections, and any leakage around the battery of fluids. DONT ADD WATER to battery as this is not advised for newere sealed batteries. A battery will not hold a charge with a bad cell.. So it may charge a bit but will die again after a short period.

2. The alternator is the item that recharges your battery during driving. It creates enough voltage to run the car and then put extra back into the battery. If its bad it wont charge the battery. If you ve noticed your lights dimming, flickering, flashing. Static or hum in radio, etc. then it could indicate a bad alternator.

3. A loose serpentine belt can cause the alternator to not function properly so it should be checked for glazing (very shiny) or cracked. You might hear a squeal at start up of the motor with a loose or damaged belt.

Your local autoparts store has a system that will place the charging system (Battery adn Alternator) under a load. This will help diagnose if the alternator is producing enough current or if the battery is holding that charge. The diagnosis is free and Autozone, Advance, and Oreilly all perform this at curbside.. You dont have to get your hands dirty and they can tell you the issue. If battery they offer free battery installation with battery purchase. If alternator and you are handy with DIY.. you can change yourself with relative ease.

I have a new alternator on a 1992 Honda Accord, but my battery keeps going dead?

The battery may not be holding charge. If you drained your battery a few times because of a bad alternator, it is possible to destroy the cells in the battery causing one or more of them to no longer hold a charge. Most batteries are manufactured to be cycled or completely drained 8 times. Other factors such as excessive load and age can decrease that number. You may also have a faulty voltage regulator that can result in overcharging and destroying the battery. Charge the battery on portable charger and have it tested. Also, It is possible that since most alternators are rebuilt they can be bad out of the box.

Wont jump start after dead battery, clicking sound

Give the battery 15 min to recharge before you try to start the engine. The battery is to far gone and drawing to much from the others car charging system, so give it time and then try again. Your going to most likely going to need to repalce the battery, once you turn your car off. A battery that far gone will not hold a charge and will burn out your alternator, causing you more work and money to replace the alternator along with the battery.

Good luck and thank you for using Fixya.
