- Remove the negative battery terminal and keep it away from the battery post.
- Loosen the the lower and upper alternator bolts.
- Push the alternator towards the engine block to release the belt.
- Install the new belt, place a lever between the alternator and engine block, move away the alternator to stretch the belt, leave about half an inch of free play on the belt and tight both the bolts.
- Loosen the alternator (generator) upper adjustable bracket bolt.
- Loosen the alternator lower bolt with 14 mm socket.
- Push the alternator toward the engine block to release the belt and take it out.
- Place the new belt on pulleys.
- Pull the alternator away from the engine block and make sure that the belt is aligned and seated properly on all the pulleys .
- Place a wooden hammer handle between the engine block and the alternator and pull the alternator away from the engine while
monitoring the tension of the belt.
- Do not over stretch the belt. Half inch of free play will be sufficient for the safer operation of the belt and bearings.
- Tighten the upper alternator bolt.
- Tighten the lower alternator bolt.
Just loosen up the BOLT in the alternator, the one that holds the bracket, and u can move/slide the ALTERNATOR assembly. If the A/C compressor belt is blocking the removal of belt, loosen up the compressor and slide it to free up the belt! Now u could replace the alternator belt!
Installing will be easier!
slacken off the bolts holding the alternator to the block, then push it towards the block, you will then be able to remove the belt and replace it.
lever the alternator away from the block to tighten belt(1/2 inch play on longest stretch)then do up the bolts and check free play again.DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN BELT.
First you need to remove the serpintine belt or alternator belt. If it is a serpintine locate the tension pully(the one that doesn't look like it does anything) place a wrench over the pully bolt and pull while removing the belt. Most generaly all alternators have two bolts holding them in. Remove both bolts. and remove alternator on some vehicles you need to remove the top engine mounts to remove the acctual alternator. make sure you if you do this you put a jack under the bngine block. NEVER ON THE OIL PAN. After that simply remove the old alternator and replace it with the new one reinstall the serpintine belt as instructed on either the underside of your hood or where the hood latch is.
Removing the alternator isn't the easiest job on this car!
The
long bolt that allows the alternator to pivot to adjust belt tension
ISN'T the bolt to be removed; remove the two bolts that hold the
mounting bracket to the engine block. One is at the end of the
alternator (away from the belt), the other is above the end of the
adjusting bolt, not far away from the first bolt. Slacken the tension off
the belt by loosening the adjusting bolt, then undo the two bolts holding the bracket to the engine
block.
While you have the alternator off, check the bushings of
the tension adjusting bolt; if worn/sloppy they should be pressed out
and replaced; it'll extend the life of the alternator bearings.

1; remove neg. batttery terminal. 2:remove all wires from alterator and the connector. 3: release the belt tension buy loosing all bolts on front brackets of the alternator. 4: press on alternator until it swings toward the block 5: remove belt on ALT. 6: remove all bolts holding it on. 7. remove alternator.
you shouldent need to remove anything to replace or tighten your serpantine belt there is two pullys without grooves the one on the left should be the tensioner if you turn the bolt clockwise it looses the belt off so you can pull it off if done right you can take the belt and pull it around the fan then reverse to put a new one back on
